Great player, first black MLB manager. Red-ass baseball player and executive. Great loss for baseball and society.

That's crazy.

He also hit that ball clear out of that huge old ballpark they had. I always wanted to go see the "HERE" sign they flew at the spot where it cleared the park.

Here is a tidbit that could win you some bar trivia at some point;

Quote:
Frank Robinson is also the only player in MLB history to hit grand slams in back to back innings with the same runners on base. This occurred in the fifth and sixth innings in the Baltimore Orioles' 12–2 victory over the Washington Senators at RFK Stadium on June 26, 1970. The base runners were Dave McNally (3rd), Don Buford (2nd), and Paul Blair (1st).
I mean two in the same game is pretty rare. The odds of this even happening again have to be pretty astronomical.

No, these things don't progress via sports; they progress via race. So probably a Latino. I'll go with Denny Martinez. He's lived long enough.

I'll go with a Dominican Cardinals prospect on the road right now.

A power hitter with 1420 BB and 1532 SO. My the game has changed.

No way he could catch up to today’s power pitchers. He’d be just a guy.

Remember another Robby White Sox play Robby broke up a double play fucked up Al Weiss's knee and Robby got knocked out. With Weiss writhing with pain and Frank knocked out..... an alert Ken Berry ( last Sox outfielder to win a Golden Glove geesh).picked the ball up and tagged Robinson out.For a time Frank had double vision that hindered him from winning back to back Triple Crowns

The media and everyone has said how great Robinson was, MVP both Leagues etc.....if he was
so good, why was he traded so many times, in his prime? He played on 5 teams, before free agency,
what's the real story here, I'm guessing he was a pain the ass to management? A clubhouse cancer?
Asking for a friend...

He was on two teams for the first 15 years of his career. Then he bounced around as do late in their careers.

Mike Francesa couldnt stand him though.

I seem to recall something about his trade to Baltimore being a little like the Cubs trading Bill Madlock to San Francisco. Parts of the Pittsburgh community hated Clemente at around that same time (1965/66).

His trade to the Angels coincides with the start of the DH era, and his trade to the Indians set up him being player-manager.

He still put up a .833 slash line with the Angels at 38 years old in the pre-steroid era. Damn.

Especially with one of the runners being the pitcher.
