One of the most embarrassing things I've ever seen was his appearance on Letterman in '89 or thereabouts.

At the end of the song he performed he did that move where the singer dramatically sweeps his arms across his body and ends with them over his head while holding the microphone with both hands and his head down. After he did that, he held that pose while awkwardly looking up to see the audience's reaction. He looked very self-conscious and unsure of himself.

They went to commercial, and when they came back for the last 30 seconds of the show for Dave to say goodnight, Eddie was sitting next to him. Trying to get a reaction from the crowd, Eddie put on a Yankees hat which drew little reaction. Saying something like "Oh, is that the wrong one?!? That's no good?!?" he took off the Yankees hat, put on a Mets hat and said "Is this one better?!?" Again, there was little reaction from the crowd. During this episode Dave was subtly asking and motioning for him to stop.

Eddie seemed so desperate and awkward. It was truly cringe inducing and I just felt bad for the guy.

Honestly, from the articles I've been seeing today, that might have been right around one of his trips to rehab...so, yeah.

If this is what you're talking about, I don't think it's nearly as bad as you made it sound.

I don't know. They didn't show the very end so I don't know if that's the one with the baseball hats at the end. I remember watching it with my roommate at the time. It was 30 years ago, though, so I may have exaggerated it in my mind over the years.

What was up with that "move" at the end of the song? I thought he was having a seizure?

Also, what was up with the group of people watching on a TV? I never saw this episode before.

Not entirely sure which is correct but the article on him I read said he was cop in training before quitting for music. Dad and brother were long time NYPD.
