goodbye, mean, penny pinching, great soup and sandwich maker.

I think the son has been running the business for a while. He always seemed more interested in making wedding music than sandwiches so I expect with his father's death the place will be up for sale. I've never priced franchises but it seems to me it is underutilized and could be much bigger managed by a person with vision

Are they all shut down? I know they recently closed the one at Addison and Ashland and I was not happy. I used to get the turkey chili quite a bit.

they had a great lunch special when they were in buffalo grove on dundee just west of BG road. location closed like 15 years ago.

always enjoyed their subs and split pea soup. they got sloppy with maintaining the inside of their store on ashland. the area is full snobs so you gotta at least have the basics down like RHR does for a simple joint.

I think that BG franchise was owned by a couple I know.

Evanston people love Capt'n Nemos. I could always take it or leave it. I guess the Americanne was okay. That was my go-to.

Also, the unnecessary "t" in Capt'n always kind of disturbed me.

I was one and done, didn't really care for it. My wife likes it. Mr. Submarine is my nostalgia sub of choice.

 Yeah, I like it too. I even like the hot subs which are microwaved and causes the bread to be all rubbery. It is terrible though.

Subs for me are pretty important. I am not 100% sure any single shop is my favorite. I was always more I love this one there and that one there and over there has a really great whatever.

Bob-O-Rino's on Central is really great. Nottoli's on Belmont, great. Also, Capri Deli in Palatine, the best bread I've had at a sub place.

I'm not sure I have never been in a Mr Sub prior to 1am.

Yeah, Bari and Graziano's are both great.

I've never eaten at a Capt'n Nemo. They always seemed kinda scuzzy .

That having been said, a couple of months ago I passed a Mr. Submarine in Oak Forest, got nostalgic and got a sandwich there on my way back. Maybe I'll go back after that memory fades.

Mr. Sub doesn't belong in the conversation with Nemos. Mr. Sub uses low grade meats.

Pure nostalgia. Used to go to the one by Jeff Park station after karate as a kid. Or the Irving and Cicero one after Circuits or Bucket o' Suds closed as a slightly older kid.

I go to the one downtown every once in a while. It's a great price and I like that sesame topped bread they use. It smells up the office something fierce and you have to eat it immediately as it does not age well.

Actually, I have found that all deli cut subs seem to suck by the next day.

Not a muffaletta. In fact, I would advise saving it for a day or two.

Because the bread is as thick as a masonry block and needs soaking. And you have to have an almost unnatural love of olives.

My friend Mike Piazza's dad owned Aldo's. Mike got shot and killed by some gangbanging scumbag near Belmont & Pulaski.

Yeah, I was shocked by that as well.

I used to like going to Capri in Palatine as well...back when I lived there.

My go to is usually Rammy's on Hintz. A little overpriced, but the food is always good.

If I'm at home, it's usually Potbelly's...which is adequate.

This sounds like it would go great with one of Spaulding's Famous Halfway-Edible Vegan Brownies™
