Hated by MANY....that's ok....They weren't for everyone. They had a 38 year run. Never compromised....never sold out.

I'm sure in 3 years, they'll do a show here or there, but this isn't Kiss or Motley Crue....I tend to believe them when hey say it's over.

I'll miss going to see them with my group of HS friends....it was a sure fire way for 5-6 of us to get together once over 16 months.

Anthrax came up at the same time as Slayer. Pantera and countless others wouldn't have existed without Slayer.


This is a pretty common thought. I prefer to think of it differently....the wrong guitar player died. If King had been the one to get sick and ultimately drink himself to death.....the final 3 albums of newer music would have been stronger. In terms of Slayer as a live touring monster....nothing was lost with Holt. Tom Araya was the one that put the final nail in the coffin. Very well documented he was done with touring. If this was the final show and they don't even pop up sporadically for one-off shows....that will have more to do with King being an insufferable douche and bad blood between Araya and King. I'm in the camp that there was major disagreement about how to split the pie from Hanneman's share.

Gary Holt was as perfect of a fill-in that they could have chosen. They got that one right. The 2013 show with Holt at the Aragon was the best they've ever sounded and had the perfect set list.

If you've never listened to the Lost In Vegas Reaction guys....they're hysterical. They were dead on with their analysis. I love how they immediately knew "Raining Blood" should NOT have been their initial exposure to Slayer. They later did one to "Seasons In the Abyss" and found that to be a more manageable introduction to Fuckin' Slayer.
