I don't know about that one: "deplorable" was reclaimed by its targets as a badge of transgressive honor in under a week four years ago, no one is calling people "deplorables" anymore but themselves.


Ordinary people don't listen to John Prine. Most ordinary people don't even listen to Bob Dylan. There's no shame at all in being a songwriter's songwriter, it worked pretty well for Warren Zevon and Steve Goodman, but it seems tragically out of touch to think that ordinary people's lives have been "profoundly penerated" by John Prine at any time in at least the last thirty years. You may as well assume that they have strongly formed opinions on the works of Studs Terkel while you're at it.

not that I'm aware of the world's greatest songwriters, but I had never heard of this guy until he was publicly diagnosed with COVID19. Doesn't mean he's not great....but yeah, he's a niche guy not very well known by average music consumer.

I saw him once at Navy Pier Skyline stage in i think 2002 or thereabouts, when my uncle was in town as he is a big fan. When i've visited my uncle he played his stuff fairly often, and while i have a lot of respect for the guy i always thought as he was boring as fuck

that was one of the last shows I saw !!

Funny enough, the 2nd to last show I saw was Shellac at Lincoln Hall...it was the Tuesday of the week when they shut things down on Friday. During the "Q&A" portion while Albini was tuning his guitar someone asked what they were doing to stop the spread of the virus and he said he didn't give a fuck
