The Last Dance finished him. I actually thought that he had died from the effects of dementia a few years ago.

Would have liked to have seen him play for those Bulls teams. They were pretty good.

I think he was born in a town named Gobbler's Knob.

Was he from McLeansboro or Hoopeston-East Lynn High? I always forget.

Edit: McLeansboro. Sloan was not a Cornjerker.

Didn't Sloan quit at halftime during a game versus the Bulls?

Apparently he visited Sloan a few years ago and apologized.

Something like Williams was calling his own plays....? I just tried to read up on it again and I still am not sure.

Bummer.

Didn't know this -

He took the Evansville job in 1977 but resigned without coaching a game. Team plane crashed early that season. All 29 people aboard died.

Those teams in the '70's were a joy to watch .... Bob Lanier once said " Jerry would get in your jockstrap and ride you all the way down court"

I would have picked Sloan over Williams at the time.

Deron Williams finished him, probably took at least a couple years off his life.

at least they were able to reconcile (i.e. Williams went to Sloan's house and apologized for the way he acted) towards the end of Sloan's life.
