Play Deep was quite possibly the definitive bubble gum pop album of the 80's. Wore that album out. Guitar player died a few years back too.

I frequently confuse Glass Tiger and Giuffria.

when i think of bubblegum rock, i think of the archies or new kids on the block. to me, the outfield was the fixx light.

IPL going on now, Royals have the worst RR in the league, -0.591. The lines on these matches are always super tight. e.g, Royals vs Indians on Sunday, seems like Royals should be bigger dogs to the Indians. Mumbai tied for first and have the best net run rate in the league at +1.201. Dunno if it's the books not caring to handicap these non-CWC matches in depth or the nature of the IPL twenty20 format means even a team like the Royals can take down a top tier team if they have a batter go off for a hundred (or a century?). And then due to the max overs thing the other team's less likely to match their run total:

Play Deep is really a fantastic record. Yes, "Josie on a vacation far away" is worn out to hell, but there's quite a few non-hit songs on that record that are still enjoyable. "I Don't Need Her" and "Say It Isn't So".....awesome.

100%. Mystery Man is the best cut actually. There really isnt a bad song on the entire thing.

Normally when someone describes a record as "raw" or "stripped" down....it's heavy. Play Deep is incredibly simple, raw, and pure but it's still very pop. It's a great example that pop songs don't need to be over-produced and over complicated.

i'd say that's a good description. i said the fixx light because each lead guitarist had the distinctive whammy bar sound.
