LOS ANGELES (AP) — Phil Spector, the eccentric and revolutionary music producer who transformed rock music with his “Wall of Sound” method and who later was convicted of murder, has died. He was 81.

California state prison officials said he died Saturday of natural causes at a hospital.

Spector was convicted of murdering actress Lana Clarkson in 2003 at his castle-like mansion on the edge of Los Angeles. After a trial in 2009, he was sentenced to 19 years to life.

Gotta seperate the artist from the person. He was a genius. Was a multimillionaire by 20 and the Wall of Sound defined music in the late 50's early 60's. His parents were nuts though and so was he. I highly recommend the book Tearing down the Wall of Sound. Interesting read

- i also remember spector's appearance on 'i dream of jeannie'. he was really, really digging jeannie. he couldn't keep his eyes off her bottom half.

"Marred by a murder conviction." Marred by being a murderer seems more correct. Sure, there's convicted murderers that were innocent, but I don't think Phil was one of them.
