The company is closing all of its stores. The one in Downers was half empty for a while, but I still went there.

Another COVID retail casualty.

Yeah. I went into one right at the start of COVID and over 50% of the shelves had nothing on them and it wasn't because too many people were buying stuff.

It's amazing they made it this long.

Yeah, I went there about two months ago and I'd say the shelves were 90% empty.

And yet Micro Center in Westmont seems to be doing very well.

They've been circling the drain for about the past 3 years. Walking into one of their stores was depressing. The last time I was there, which was pre-covid, they didn't have a single TV or computer in stock.

Best Buy is making big money being demo stations for companies like Apple.

I was gonna say, Best Buy seems to be fine right now. Years back when they were the "test drive" for people shopping electronics, then go home and order somewhere cheaper online. But they noted that and made necessary changes to remain profitable.

Yep. And another competitor disappearing only helps them.

Found it cheaper to custom build a computer from Microcenter than Fry's. That said, Fry's used to have EVERYTHING. I mean, you could walk out of that store with enough material to build 10-15 different types of bombs if you wanted.

The last time I was there I knew it wouldn't be long. The store was mostly empty. They did used to be like "Radio Shack on steroids." But now they're like Radio Shack when they closed all their stores. The bottom line is that Amazon was already kicking everyone's butt before the pandemic and that was kind of the final straw for Fry's. It was definitely a store that had everything in it's heyday.

With all these stores going out of business it makes you wonder where all the $15 minimum wage people are going to work.

100%. You could find any kind of audio cable you wanted. And you'd discover audio cables you never knew existed.

I had never heard of Fry's Electronics until I came to AZ in '05. My parents bought a refrigerator and big screen television from the Baseline and 10 store the first week we were here. The place was packed that night and so lively. It was certainly a different vibe when I was last there a year or so ago. Times change.

That Downers Grove location must have opened up sometime after '05 because I lived right across the freeway (Highland and 35th) and don't remember it being there. Although, I was a kid so maybe I wasn't paying attention.

This is all true. Fry's was the best store. I recently bought some computer memory there. They had what I needed in stock, didn't have to buy online.

I don't know why they decided to stop stocking things like computers, cameras and stereo equipment. When they did have computers, I always saw people in that section buying them. They used to carry different models of Marley headphones, which are of great quality. Any software you would want, they had it.

The location of the DG store was death. Convenient if you made a dedicated trip, but that stretch of Finley is pretty deserted.

Because they couldn't afford to pay their vendors for product.

Yup, pretty much right across the street.
