He has recently hosted a saturday afternoon show on progressive radio that was excellent. It was more a review of chicago politics than a screaming liberal show.

I sat next to him several times at white sox games. I thought he was gay because he had the old man hub earring in the wrong ear and it was just him and a dude to whom he seemed overly close. I think they were just friends.

Dick Kay was the goods. Tough but fair reporter of the local scene.

He's hosted that progressive radio show for at least a decade. He did a pretty good job of keeping his personal political leanings out of his work at Channel 5.

I wouldn't be afraid to admit if it were true but I remember even Laverne and Shirley giving me a rod before I even knew what it was for

 It was Jayne Kennedy on CBS' NFL Today for me.

I distinctly remember a conversation around that same year or two with some family members where they were talking about attractive women and I chimed in with Pam Grier. My mom looked at me like what the hell do you know..."

Spending summers in the Loop with the best of aldermanic patronage and their side pieces working in as of yet under air-conditioned settings, during the age of disco? Damn straight...

She came and went for me in Jackie Brown. I think she looked good at the end when all the shit with Samuel L Jackson was over. But they probably made her look strung out on purpose for most of the movie.

And I have it on good authority that she was something of a freak.

Her movies spent a lot of time at one of the downtown movie theaters in first release.

One of those places that has popcorn containers with a hole in the bottom? I knew a city guy named Herb that I used to work with that told me all sorts of odd things like that.

Two of the things I remember most about those places was unless you wanted a rat to run across your feet, you kept your feet on the chair in front of you and for other reasons you never sat far from the door.

I never went into the downtown theaters (Oriental, Michael Todd - the one Herb was probably talking about, Woods, or United Artists) as those places were really badly run down by then. When I got to college I would go to the Esquire or the really big one in Streeterville (was that the McClurg Court or another one over by Navy Pier?) with friends.

the adult era of state street had ended before I was old enough to enjoy it

My dad had an office near there when I was a kid. He took one of my brothers and I to work on a saturday. We had lunch at Marshall Fields. On the way back we heard a woman scream and a guy running down the street with her purse. My dad chased down the purse snatcher. Superhero! of course my brother and I could have been grabbed off the street and sold into white slavery by the time he returned but that is incidental to the story.

It's been so long that I'd forgotten about McClurg Court.

Whichever one it was in Streeterville, it had something like 1500 seats. Just massive before the age of multiplexes. I remember going to see something with friends of mine in graduate school, had to be 1100 people in there

The only other time I had seen that many people at a movie was when UIUC used to let student groups rent out the Auditorium on the quad, and some sorority rented it and showed Debbie Does Dallas for $5/person one September Friday and Saturday. They made a killing.

I caught Dick Kay's Sunday show on CPT every now and then circa 2008. It was on either before or after that insane show with the brothers from Highland Park who owned a restaurant.
