Dollar might be worth more than it by the end of the week

Aside from the energy price support, Truss' new program makes sense for the UK. But of course it will balloon the deficit.

Shocking.

Almost feels like a world invoice is coming due that nobody thought they would need to pay.

The bill for 15 years of reckless monetary and fiscal policy is coming due. As screwed up as it is, the US might come out better than most just by virtue of the fact the Fed is aggressively raising rates, even if they should've started a year ago.

Dollar strength - particularly in an inflationary environment - isn’t really a great story.

Dollar strength counteracts inflation domestically. It makes foreign good cheaper.

If you’re buying things while abroad or if the domestic company who’s imported the shit they’re selling is kind enough to reduce prices, sure.

In the real world, no. They’ll just enjoy wider margins.

* and further to that, when the multinational who sells you most your shit is facing margin declines internationally - where they make a bulk of their profits - what happens domestically? When earnings are translated are they relying on wall street’s good graces to understand it’s a problem outside their control, or are they pricing up?

Would be a great time for them to be in a continent wide trade agreement or something.

It wouldn’t though.

The ability to weaken the currency because they’re not party to some gay union can benefit the whole economy. Vacationers to France won’t like it, but the inability to do just this is exactly the type of thing that fucks Portugal on a regular basis.

King Charles off to a rough start in his reign. Hopefully he can stage a Biden-like comeback.

Fucking hell, pound's below a buck-five? Time to book flights to the UK. Exchange rate always the worst part of visiting London. Hand over a $1000 and get back 600 £, give or take, traditionally. Sometimes a little more, sometimes less. But shit still priced out in pounds like it would be in dollars. A shitty meal at the British version of a Chili's type chain still costs 20 to 30 pounds a person. 2 people and you're spending 100 dollars on the worst meal you ever attempted to eat. Fear Factor level of cuisine on your plate.

They conquered and colonized the world in search of spices and then refused to use them.

Truss may be Troast

But the real reason for the monetary crisis is the Tories aren't far enough right.

I've been planning to go to London for a week next March or April. Premium economy (basically the same as US domestic first class) is down to $1150 from the east coast for March without having to have an overnight flight. If I can get my relatives to settle on dates, I may go ahead and buy my ticket soon.

I was down a YouTube rabbit hole yesterday and came across videos of first and business class flights out of London and would love to make a flight like that soon.

The British airport taxes for flying business class out of the UK are pretty steep. Steep enough to take a quick flight to Dublin or Amsterdam for a day on a separate ticket and then flying back home from there (connecting back in London if needed.
