Quote:
Jeff Beck, among the most innovative and certainly the most unpredictable of ’60s guitar heroes, has died. He was 78.

“On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing. After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday,” reads a statement from his rep. “His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”

that's some fine guitar work but man, Roger Waters cannot sing. Might as well have autotuned that whole thing.

Fuck. I mean 78 is not young, but he was still just killing it right up to the end, and to go out with fucking bacterial meningitis?

One of my all-time faves. :(

Another Jeff Beck guest guitar tune:

Thought Beck also did the guitar work on a Bowie 80's album, but that was another deceased guitar god.

Kay Lenz is the model in the video. Fair warning, do not google her. The video is about the best she ever looked.

What was the 80's fascination with cheesy horns in songs. Maybe a bit of sax to add some color to the tune, but full horn section on a rock song ruins otherwise decent songs. Although Wilco did it alright on a song or two, iirc. Maybe it was 80's horns bleating like sheep on methamphetamine in the background that ruins it.

The absolute favorite guitarist of many rock stars. I know who he is, I know what he looks like, but much of his greatness was before my time. Mostly instrumental and jazz-ish stuff which I can enjoy and appreciate, but I'm just more of a song guy. He did the Mick Jagger "Primitive Cool" album and the work on Throwaway was fantastic, but Terry Bosio's drumming kind of overshadowed Beck.

I'll have to dig into some of us stuff, but I really need to psych myself up for guitar hero / instrumental type stuff.
RIP....he's definitely a guitar legend.

I'm with you.

I mean, I understand what a great and important player he was, but he rarely hit me emotionally. Here's an exception: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC_j_dzkaVE

I get that Zeppelin was just a ripoff of the Jeff Beck Group, but they just did it so much better.

Some of that stuff with Johnny Depp that just came out is kind of interesting.

Bozzio also played with Zappa prior to MP.

The shit with Zappa was insane, and what he's been doing with the solo drumming thing for the past couple decades is sublime...

We were talking about that at rehearsal tonight, how does Richards and even Clapton outlive these guys?

A lot of the good Yardbirds tunes feature Beck, including one that has a nexus with the Score: "Over Under Sideways Down." Also, "People Get Ready" is one of my guilty pleasures.

For Your Love was played on a 12 string by Beck. Great drums in that song.
