Both closing all locations. Never took advantage of Big Lots (or its predecessor, MacFrugal's). I'm kind of surprised about Party City, though. I mean, they hung on this long.

Party city..... I went to this beer tasting festival in San Diego 15 or so years ago and searched the name on the little beer/ merch tickets they were using. They were from Party City so I went in and bought a roll of all the colors as this place had a festival 3 or 4 times a year. They started printing their own tickets after a few years so I never had a use for Party City again. That is all.

Big Lots was great for the tackiest kitsch you ever found in one place.

I'm more surprised about Big Lots.

How would you ever know what the next close out would happen so they could buy it all up for resale.

Tuesday Morning was another one of those and they went down a year or two ago, though I think Big Lots was more big-ticket stuff like furniture while Tuesday Morning was just an endless supply of candles and hand towels.

Strange I thought “some” Big Lots closing.

“New York
CNN

Big Lots is preparing to close its remaining 963 locations after a sale to save the bankrupt retailer fell through.

The company previously announced it was selling “substantially all” of its assets to private equity firm Nexus Capital Management in September, but Big Lots said in a statement Thursday it “does not anticipate completing” the transaction.

As a result, Big Lots is starting its “going out of business” sales at all remaining locations in the coming days. However, it still plans to explore other options to save the company, including negotiating with Nexus or another buyer, with the aim of completing a sale by early January.”

This was an unintentional Jay McInerney reference, for the record.

Do you love to watch it leave?
