Pretty damn good job with the Sox. Had they given him a second baseman and a few non-scrap-heap pitchers, they could have done something. This hurts. Good guy.

Hey, they had a winning record against the A's in 1990

That was a fun team, but he had a pretty brief tenure with the Sox.

I always think he gets lost in the discussion about good Sox managers.

Yeah, he was a pretty good manager for the White Sox. As a player, he caught Koufax perfect game against the Cubs, and Nolan Ryan’s first no-hitter . pretty cool claim to fame to have.

I didn't hate his guts, which when it comes to me, that must mean he was alright. I only liked two managers in my entire life.

90% of managers are terrible. I'm not kidding.

Chet used to have him as a half-hour guest on an off night and they would take calls. Jeff was one of the first managers I remember who talked about "the process" - there was one game where they managed to win and he was still pissed off because they fucked up a bunch of fundamentals, the other team just fucked up more of them.

Sad to hear.

Those early 90s Wsox teams were so fun to watch. Made me jealous.

RIP

seemed like a good dude, but maybe not smart enough to be a manager.

He was basically an ordinary dude taken off the street and made a manager.
