Now I have not lsistend to MNMS in 2008, because I don't like it. I do listen to B&B on the way home though, but now I have to hear all these commercials almost forcing me to listen to inane bable.

I have no idea what they plan to do with him, but if his deal is up this year, don't they usually start talking about this start now?

Iowa played well, but lost to the Boilers. It showed the key weakness for Iowa - their big men suck. They have trouble hitting shots, get in foul trouble and generally disappear.

Iowa did play well. Purdue is a tough team to match up with. They don't have a dominant big man(yet). JaJuan Johnson still needs at least 25 pounds before he can show off his skills. They do have two 6'8 players who have guard skills and cause major matchup problems.

There were some early growing pains with this team but there are signs that they are starting to put it together. I'm very interested to see what happens against Illinois because Purdue is in a position to put itself in the battle for the Big Ten championship. They will ultimately fall a little short of IU, MSU, and maybe even Wisconsin but at this point I'd say they are ahead of schedule in their development.

I think this team could be a dangerous team by the time of the NCAA tournament if they get in. Iowa is starting to show signs of life too. The MSU win was big.

Iowa is 1-2 years away to playing the Butler way but I like the way Lickliter is building things. I'm excited for the future. Alford may have took a dump on the Hawkeyes, but I think Lickliter is a guy to make them a regular winner.

Hey Rick, what are your opinions on Martin and Hummel?

It should be interesting to see how it works. They key will be to find players that fit the system well. Butler has done a good job of finding guys that are perfect for them. The whole Big Ten is going to get very difficult soon.

Iowa will improve as Steve Alford was good enough to not get fired but that was it. Lickliter is an upgrade.

Minnesota is improving the program.
Purdue is too.
Penn State seems to be getting better, but it always looks like that.
IU will be good if they can avoid NCAA penalties.
MSU and Wisconsin are always good.
Ohio State will only win when they get incredibly dominant freshman like Oden. Filling your team with one and done players who have NBA potential is going to catch up to you. College basketball is still a team game unless you have Greg Oden.
Michigan will continue to be an underachieving or average team.

Bruce Weber seems to have solved some recruiting problems but I have a feeling that the Illini faithful are already losing patience.

Sorry Northwestern, you need to try something new.

I really think the Big Ten is going to close the gap on ACC dominance in the next couple years.

Hummel is going to be the biggest contributor on the team. He seems to do everything on the floor. He is going to a terribly difficult matchup once he puts on a little more weight. It's always great to have a player that can dominate a game while not dominating the scoring column.

Scott Martin has struggled hitting shots lately, but he will be our best scorer for the next four years. E'twaun Moore and Martin are going to end up scoring the majority of our points. Martin does a lot of the little things to.

It will be such an advantage to have two highly skilled players at 6'8 for the next 3-4 years.

It also doesn't hurt that Martin and Hummel have a great chemistry together from playing a ton of basketball together prior to arriving at Purdue.

I'm trying to temper my enthusiasm about Purdue basketball because I know as well as anyone that potential is not always reached but when watching the team play this year I always get the feeling that something special is being put together in West Lafayette. I don't know if they will win a national championship, but they are going to be a major player in the NCAA tournament very soon.

They also have a recruit for next year from Decatur,IL that is supposed to be the quickest player in the state of Illinois who should develop into a Dee Brown-like point guard which will be sorely needed. He's currently tearing it up downstate.

I'm just hoping they make the NCAA tournament this year and maybe win a game. I think that would be a successful season.

I believe Hummel will continue to improve, but this could be Martin's ceiling.

I can agree with that with one exception. I do not think that Scott Martin will end up shooting under 40% for very long. I think he'll be 45% to 50% next year. I can't really explain why it's been low but he is a better shooter than he is showing right now.
