IF he leaves the air, which I still really doubt will happen, he'll be too busy congratulating himself for all the great things he's accomplished over the years and all the great radio and interviews he's done and thanking all his "good buddies" to cry or rant. Fred will probably be relieved he doesn't have to get up in the middle of the night anymore and can concentrate on his new career as a soccer announcer. Jen, on the other hand, will probably weep profusely.

I hope Feder gives advance warning. I'd hate to miss the "tribute" show to Mr. Irrelevant, lead by Fritzie. Maybe they can play the greatest hits from Caucasian Man, classic episodes of the great Bookie Priest, highlights from the spectacular Real Estate game, you know, all the classic bits that have lead to his abysmal failure in the mornings. Maybe Annie can make a guest appearance too!!

Contract up in July according to Teddy back in Feb:

Has it been officially announced that he took the offer?

His contract expiration must be getting close because he's starting to make frequent "couched" references to it. Today he led into a break by mentioning the call letters...then adding "did I say WLS? WBBM? WGN?...must have been a Freudian slip"? Later he stated something to the effect that the MNMS was employed by The Score, but was not a part of The Score & that they are a team (sounds reminiscent of Roe & Garry before they parted ways).

i tuned in right in time to hear that this morning.

and yes, it sounded like he was trying to tell Score Management that if he goes, he's taking his "team" with him - that being...ummm...jenjen?

Mike has too much of an ego - and Bebe has proven to be smart with the pr maneuvers - to let the contract run out and have the station let him go. He'll either have something with another station - and quits prior to the end of the contract - or he will simply quit so it looks like he made the decision and not the station.

Can anyone really see any of those stations hiring him, let alone for big money? I think you call his statements a huge bluff. He has nowhere to go in Chicago for bigtime exposure or money. He may get a job but not hosting in drive time.

Right. Nobody needs him or wants him. Let's go through the list.

WMVP 1000 - No. Their morning show always beat him. MJH aren't going anywhere.

WGN 720 - Hell no. They are a safe station. They don't want a loud, ignorant, meatball like Pappy.

WLS 890
- I would doubt it. Maybe a weekend role. That's it.

WBBM 780 - Pappy mentioned this station? They don't do shows. It's a news station. What? Are we gonna have "Pappy's meatball thoughts" on the 7s?

Those are really the only stations that have money in this city. He's not going to any of them. Maybe weekends at WLS if Pappy wants that.

Maybe he can return to his roots and buy time on WIND, or some other oft-ignored frequency.

He's probably looking into Talkzone.com, Dave Baum's new home. It's an internet based talk radio "station." I imagine his heavily "sponsored" internet shows with Fritzy are pilots/demos to break into that market. I'd be curious to learn if this gig would pay anywhere near what he's making now.

Speaking of Roe and Garry, maybe North will do the "contract negotiations" disappearance before July.

Also, the "not part of the Score" thing is actually kinda true. I sort of get that vibe at times, like when Matt and Jason keep dropping "WHAAAAT?" after all the Mike North promos. I wonder why Mitch hasn't told them to stop sabotaging their promos (which are now billable time; thanks am/pm!)

He's making 1.5 million right now Coach. I can guarantee you this venture wouldn't pay anywhere near that. I don't know anybody that listens to Talkzone.com.

If he's just gonna do internet he and Fritzy should just do their own show on his Northtonorth.com web site. Pappy can sell the ads himself. Still, that can't be much money. I mean, regular radio gives you all of those people trapped in their cars during rush hours. People might go to his internet site initially while at work. After a while they'll forget about him. What the hell? He can do it if he still wants to do radio. He can make some money I'm sure.

Wow, that'll show 'em!

Hmmm, let's see . . . the station's choices are (a) hang on to this sorry bunch that's been a flop since Day One or (b) try to put out a decent product in the morning that has a fighting chance to beat the national ESPN crap in the morning--you know, the same kind of national ESPN crap that everyone else at the station seems to beat the bejeezus out of on a regular basis . . . hmmm. Uh, Mike, the door is this way . . . and clean the drool, slobber, and Marconi giardiniera off the microphones before you leave.

Or another way to boil it down:

a: Hang onto the current show getting its teeth kicked in by ESPN for a loss of a ton of revenue.

or

b: Put a syndicated radio show that has a following that they already pay for; but broadcast it live AKA Dan Patrick.

I have a feeling Dan will be taking on Mike and Mike directly in Chicago soon enough. North sees the writing on the wall and knows it; hence his BS routine that he's been doing recently.

Patrick's show starts at 8 am central. What are you going to have on for three hours before that? Extended rantings by Najarian and Haugh?

So a city like Chicago is going to have no local sports talk in morning drive? Not so sure about that.
