For me, it built up over the summer of 2007 (and previous years). It started when they did the Super Bowl broadcast from Miami and North related an incident between Michael Strahan, himself and Fred.

From what I understood (we never heard Strahan's side), North and Fred were walking through a lobby where Strahan was doing an interview and they were talking loudly and Strahan yelled to shut the fuck up. North responded with his usual macho retort and as they left the building Strahan came running up to them.

Here's where the story gets confusing. North claimed Strahan apologized but told viewers that Strahan backed down from them first before apologizing after North supposedly got back in his face and threatened to kick Strahan's ass. I suspect Strahan was actually being apologetic and wanted to avoid any bad publicity, pretty sure he could take North apart if he really wanted to.

NINE MONTHS LATER, North gets Strahan on the air under the guise of promoting a book, asks some perfunctory questions and it was obvious Strahan didn't even know who North was and had not been informed. North then asks "You don't remember me, do you?" Strahan said no and North informs about the Miami incident then starts to call him a scumbag, etc....the usual North name calling. Strahan actually took the high road (again) and maintained he had no beef with North, but North refused to let it go.

That turned me off and told me that Strahan unintentionally got to North's psyche nine months earlier. Why would a guy wait for an opportunity to restart something that happened nine months earlier like a gestation period to someone who apologized in the first place?

But it really bothered me that he would trick someone into an interview with an ulterior motive and use his listeners as witnesses to show what a tough guy he is. Really childish.

Add to that his hidden Cub hating agenda, where he was just waiting for the team to fail so he could rip them. It ran parellel to the Strahan incident and culminated in September when the Cubs won the division. I knew the Cubs weren't going to beat Arizona and figured it was a good time to eliminate North from my radio-listening part of my life. I stopped listening to the MNMS right before the start of the playoffs and never looked back.

Inever totally quit listening to Mike, but for sure it wasnever more then 20 minutes. He really lost me though when he said he didnt need to take calls from the listeners, because he had done that for 11 years and didnt need to do that anymore. To me, that was just a shitty thing to say to a fan base at that time that I supported you and because of that, he got a nice chunk of change.

I want to feel bad for Pappy on this, but he has made it impossible with his antics over the last few years and this is coming from a guy who he wanted to make live in a box......but he never did play the tape

I haven't quit yet...it's still the Mike North Morning Show as far as I know...I'll keep listening as long a Mully and Hanley are filling in...depending on who replaces North, I might be listening to more CDs on the drive to work.
