So Mike North wanted more respect from Score management?
I can think of no greater gesture of respect than to offer in the neighborhood of $800,000 a year to a guy who wrecked their morning drive slot over the last four years. The offer had to be based on respect for a guy who put in 16 years and helped put the station on the map in the early days because it sure wasn't based on his recent performance. Some ratings books showed that it wasn't so much a simple case of people preferring his competition; they were actually making a conscious effort to avoid listening to him. (Mike & Mike would beat him, S & W would beat him in their first hour, then at 10:00, the Score's ratings shot back up.) Every poll taken showed around 70% of the public saying dump him. The creativity aspect of the show was incredibly poor with some of the segments being bad for a high school radio station, let alone major-market morning drive. A good portion of the public found him racist and sexist.
And despite all that, this high-school dropout with his cocktail-waitress executive producer was offered that kind of a salary to stay on at the station he supposedly loves. That is one of the most generous, respectful offers I have ever heard of! Mike, you are the jagbag not of the day, the week, the month, or the year, but of the decade. I would have said century, but there's still 92 years to go, so I'll wait a bit on the outside chance somebody else out there could prove to be a bigger fool than you. Come to think of it, if any station out there takes you on to open your mouth and display your very shallow intellect about politics, current events, or anything other than sports, then I guess they're bigger fools than you.
Good riddance.
