I think it's official that 70% of listeners hate Pappy. Why? Cuz the Trib, Sun-Times, and MJH all took polls asking this question.

In all 3 of these polls in revealed that just about 70% don't like him. It's a big city. There are idiots like Pappy. That's where he gets positive email. That's the 30%. Idiots, racists and inbreeds.

Everybody else, with at least average intelligence, doesn't like Pappy.

Wow, talk about resorting to desperate measures! Does he think his fans are going to email these guys and save his ass? Think he has Bebe, Jen and Fred emailing these guys non stop with Pro Northy emails?

Like I said, all the Score management has to do is look at the polls in the Trib and Sun-Times. There is no back lash to this. They made the right move. Pappy is not coming back to the Score with this management team in place.

I should thank Mike for providing the email addresses. I sent an email to Paul and copied Zimmerman and Mason.

I guess the Bookie Priest gave North the wrong odds on his power play!

Who are the people in your neighborhood? Your neighborhood? Your neigh-bor-hood, yeah! Who are the people in your neighborhood? The people that you meet each day.

Here is what Zimmerman and Agase are doing with those emails: Bulk delete without reading.

They won't get that many. don't forget, North use to claim that his listeners don't really use computers. The management team isn't that busy, they read anything that supports their actions.

I don't think either of them read e-mails. They probably have a secretary taking care of it for them.

Don't tease us like that. Post the e-mails. Trim the personal parts if you're not comfortable putting them out there.

Gentlemen,

I extend to you a sincere and wholehearted thank you for your reported refusal to extend a new contract to Mike North. As a native, life-long Chicagoan, I could not be more happy to hear that the trademark Mike North brand of ignorant radio banter will no longer be polluting our airwaves.

Sincerely, thank you.

I threw it all out there for them on my email:

"Gentlemen,

As a loyal Chicago sports fan; it was a great day when I heard Mike North had been removed from the air. North, who I once listened to regularly; became more and more intolerable as the years went on. He became more and more abusive; and his show became more and more about him. Nothing represented that more than when he was inducted into the Chicago Sports Hall of Fame. For a full week, we heard nothing but glowing praises for him (and in some ways, rightfully so.) But when the praises were nothing but friends and employees of his? It started to get old. It got really old when the shows AFTER the induction kept going on about it.

Then, North started to present himself as invincible; that he could say whatever he wanted. After all, he was a Hall of Famer. Nevermind that Chicago has a very strong Catholic community, "da Bookie Priest is a funny bit." (Which in all honesty, I found pretty offensive.) Nevermind that referring to Jae Kuk Ryu as "a chinaman." (His logic is that "dey all look the same.") Nevermind his comments that Antonio Mora would have better ratings if he wore a sombrero. No, the Hall of Fame radio personality was immortal. He couldn't be touched.

When he started doing these types of shows; I found myself going over to other stations to listen; and really only tuning back in during the afternoon to WSCR.

No, the kicker for me and kept me from ever tuning into Mike again was his contrived media grab to gain some attention prior to his tryout for Don Imus' old gig (ironic considering one obnoxious man insensitive to race would replace another.) He created issue inside the Sox lockeroom; and with his "don't talk down to me pal," routine with Ozzie Guillen was beyond a performance. It was interfering with the product (namely Major League Baseball) that Mike North's job was to COMMENT on; not become a part of. When he showed up that afternoon with a tray of brownies, the whole situation smacked of getting a few minutes of airtime on the local news broadcasts. He wanted the attention, just prior to his tryout.

Sadly for the Chicago sports fanbase, he did not get Don Imus' old gig; as we as Chicago fans had to put up with him for a full year afterwards before you guy finally got him off the air.

I commend you for it. In your next decision to add to WSCR's lineup; please think that the fanbase of sports is ever-evolving. While there will always be "the blue collar" fans; a solid number of sports fans are educated, well spoken; and don't use "dese and dose" as part of their vocabulary.

Thanks again for making the right decision, and I look forward to listening to Chicago sports talk once again in the morning.

Sincerely,"

good letter. I'll bet they get far more thoughtful emails for their actions rather than against their actions.

I got a response to my e-mail to Zimmerman already, but it came from a Rosemary Clifton (his assistant or something?). It just said "thanks for your feedback."

Was Mike North, at many times, an idiot on the air? Hell yes! But here's the deal, as I see it: Chicago radio just become even more boring and sterile now that he is gone. (Is anyone ever able to take a joke these days? Political correctness is choking entertainment for adults into sad censorship.)

North took chances and always spoke his mind, even if he didn't know the real facts. (How many of us have done the same in our homes?) His show represented a reckless rawness that was fun and infuriating to listen to; if you don't believe this, where are the passionate e-mails about his temporary replacements, one of whom (Mulligan) really annoys with his contrived "Around the Horn-esque" shouting.

North's critics are going to miss his energy and antics.

Acting like an offensive, uninformed clown does not make for interesting radio.

Mr. Moldy, even I, the great North-hater, will admit that there is some truth in what you say. I just think there are other ways to combat "boring" and "sterile" than with ignorance and stupidity as North usually did. As for speaking without thinking in our homes, we are all free to say what we want in the privacy of our homes. When you're paid $1.5M to speak over the public airwaves, I would expect a higher standard. If M&H do get the permanent gig, I think (hope?) they will continue to be creative and develop some new and interesting angles and bits and segments to fit the new rigors and demands of a four-hour drive-time show. To be totally honest with you, they seemed a little talked-out this morning on Rose/Beasley, Cubs are great, Sox offense sucks again, but that's understandable given what they've been asked to do this week. I'm just glad to have the chance to give them a chance and see how I like it after four years of the yelling and screeching of uninformed opinions by a guy with a bad Chicago accent. Time for a change.

Good point, but if it didn't why are there so many posts about North and his show? People are fired-up to respond because "balls-out" radio these days is so rare.

Is it Thursday? I'm still drunk from my one man celebration. And for you Moldy? I'm sure you'll follow North along with some other of "dose loozers" to where ever he goes.

An ignorant moron that screamed dumb uninformed points was entertaining to you?

I'm losing my faith in the human race by the day.

As a new contributor to this forum -- but not to the SCORE as a caller -- I will remember to cut and paste what I'm responding to.

"When you're paid $1.5M to speak over the public airwaves, I would expect a higher standard."

I agree, but let's not be naive here. The airwaves are listened to -- not owned by -- the public. The airwaves are owned by too few corporations with an ultra-conservative stance, take Clear Channel (please).
