Why does Dan McNeil insist on playing nice with Mike North?

I don't care what anyone of them say... in 2000, those two did not get a long. I still remember the John Jackson article in which they are hurling insults at each other about being better than each other.

Now, North is going to appear on Mac, Jurko and Harry of all shows on ESPN Radio 1000???

Seriously, if it was Mac who had left ESPN 1000, I can't say with confidence that North would invite Danny Mac on. Perhaps, I'm wrong, but regardless, I think it's odd that McNeil is being this nice to North.

Perhaps, Danny Mac is a better man than I am.

Because Mac wants to be what North was. Someone the city talked about. He's been copying him and his life a lot lately. Mac is too stupid to just accept his success now and thinks he's a bigger player than he really is.

There's really not a lot of downside to McNeil being hospitable to North. I'm sure WMVP is interested in getting the former WSCR guy on their station as soon as possible, and I'm sure they wouldn't mind any sort of negative comments being dropped. As far as North goes, I think we all know his options are limited... he's either going to continue to do sports on WMVP, do social commentary on WLS, or leave Chicago radio for a while. What's the harm in McNeil getting North on the show, and then let's say North gets hired to do afternoons on MVP. McNeil gets credit for bringing him in, the station has an excuse to get rid of that god-awful midday show (run it tape delay against Dan Patrick), and North is back making 500k a year and possibly giving Murph a run for midday ratings.

One thing I will give McNeil credit for is looking ahead in his career. You can hear it in every show he puts out and in every post he puts on this website... he is trying to perfect his craft and grow as a sports talk show host. He's asking questions, critizicing himself, looking for ways to make things better. 100% opposite of Pappy and his "I know what Chicago wants" attitude of the last three plus years.

I just read that there is a web site that you can actually check how many hits a web site has gotten. They claim it was more like 3000 instead of thewhat North claims he got.

Poor Mikey. Desperately trying to keep in front of an audience. Even if he is talking to WLS or other stations about a gig he gave up his leverage last week. This chump has got nothing to use as leverage in any other negotiations. He is a laughing stock who will be lucky to get $300,000 now. It still is way too much for him if he is able to get it. Websites like Northtonorth are the only way a dying personality has to communicate with "his public". Pretty pathetic actually but probably better for him than having to walk around the Loop with a sandwich board.

That's true; but with "all the little guys" taking re-assignment on WSCR, it doesn't sound like North had much in mind as far as where to go.

If North becomes a regular on MJH as a weekly or God forbid as a part of the group; that show will immediately start to lose its fanbase. There's already enough opinion coming from the 3 of them; North with his "undenably Chicago" La Costra Nostra attitude would just either piss off Jurko and Harry T; or will drive away.
