Not sure if this has been posted yet....

From Ted Cox:

Mike North is denying a published report suggesting he's about to sign with WLS 890-AM.

"I haven't received anything," North said Wednesday in response to an Internet report that he's about to receive an offer from the all-news outlet. "I haven't gotten anything in writing. But I do know this. They've expressed interest."

The longtime WSCR 670-AM morning host left the station when he couldn't reach an agreement on a contract extension when his deal lapsed July 1. He said he hass talked with "about 15" program directors at Chicago stations since.

North also expressed sympathy for current WLS-AM morning hosts Don Wade and Roma, whose contract reportedly expires in November, adding to speculation WLS-AM could have an interest in North. "They're being hung out to dry," North said.

As far as saying,

about Don and Roma, I think it's incredibly intelligent strategy to talk trash about the only possible potential employer that has been mentioned up til now. Good move!!! I am sure the WLS bosses are darned happy to hear him already criticicizing policy when they've only "expressed in interest." That seven-figure offer is probably being sent via courier as we speak.

Well, he's right, they are being hung out. Management was using Teddy to deliver a not-too-subtle message to Don & Roma. It's normal management behavior, though.

For the record, the language in Teddy's piece specifically indicated that the offer is in the process of being put together and that the station is preparing to tender it. It has not been tendered yet. Reading is a skill that Ted Cox apparently does not have.

No, Mr. Cox, the published report suggested that the station is preparing an offer.

Here's Greenstein's nugget:

WLS-AM 890 is on the verge of tendering an offer to former WSCR-AM 670 morning man Mike North, according to an industry source. But the source said North, with his eyes on another potential deal, might decline it.

The morning slot at WLS has been occupied by "Don Wade & Roma" since 1985. The hosts' contracts are up in November.

WLS program director Kipper McGee (and Molly?) did not return a phone call seeking comment.

Don & Roma a competent husband and wife morning team swithced out for an incompetent morning team of Mike North and Bebe.

If this is true someone needs to slap their management, Their on air lineup whether its Don & Roma, or any other is much better than North.

If bosses of Citadel Broadcasting, the former ABC Radio, have their way, mornings on "The Big 89" will be hosted by New York "shock jock" Don Imus via syndication. WLS will let Don Wade & Roma go once their contract expires, and it'll pave the way for the old fart with the cowboy hat to sign on in Chicago. I also predict in the wake of Mark Madden's firing in Pittsburgh following the ill-timed remarks concerning Sen. Ted Kennedy, ESPN Radio bosses in both Bristol, CT & here will also take a pass on the former hot dog guy turned sports radio host. Face reality, people. North is over & out in Chicago radio. North should take a cue from Kevin Matthews and broadcast on the Web where Kev feels "the future of radio" is or explore satellite radio like Howard Stern, where he won't have to deal with the FCC and what's vaguely considered as indecent.

The Trib had a report on the status of Sirius/XM merger greenlighting by the commission this morning. While not explicitly mentioned, I got an impression that in exchange for approval they might seek to put some kind of a regulatory framework around the new company.

You stole my line, but thank you.
