I have posted this before and never really gotten a respone, maybe someone out there knows. What ever became of Chris Cross and Tom Green? They used to host the WMAQ Sports Huddle on 670 in the early 90s. I think maybe it ran from like 93-96. Steve Olken also hosted, but he is still on the Score on occasion. It was a pretty lame show, but those two hosts vanished off the face of the earth--they did not linger like most guys do. Anyone know what either of them are up to or why they never resurfaced?

Chris Cross does the afternoon drive on ESPN radio in Lexington, Kentucky (AM 1300). He is widely regarded as very lame down there too.

Wow. That show is a blast from the past. I listened to that show a lot. I thought that Tom Green worked on the Score for a couple months before he vanished into obscurity. I could be wrong though.

I believe the old "Sports Huddle" was an idea of Rick Starr, the Seattle-based sports radio consultant that I believe was general managing WMAQ in its final heyday as an all-news station before it folded in 2000 in favor of 670 "The SCORE". Although Steve Olken is technically on the WSCR payroll, he's only done sports updates in recent years on weekend mornings. I'm not sure what he's doing now, let alone what happened to former co-host Tom Greene. I know he's not the one who was a Canadian comic who was in his own MTV show earlier this decade & was briefly "married" to Drew Barrymore. As for Chris Cross, I believe you are correct about him now in Kentucky talking sports...

I believe Chris Cross won a Grammy for "Sailing" and Tom Green won a Razzie for every movie he's been in (or should have).

The "Original" WMAQ Sports Huddle was a great, great, great show with Olken & Green & Cross & sometimes John McCormick. I used to work for Aurelio's Pizza & producer Dave Aurelio was always getting free pizzas & free plugs on the air. I think I need a Aurelio's pizza now so I might run down to Harrison & Clinton if they're still open.

It was the ONLY option after the score went dark. Again, looking back it was probably pretty crappy, but I liked it as a kid. I always thought it was odd that Green basically vanished. He was a WMAQ sports reporter for a while before the show and the show was on for a while and had a pretty good following and the guy basically vanished off the radar. I dont remember ANYONE in Chicago sports radio disappearing that quickly or that permanently. Usually these guys resurface somewhere, Tom Green has been MIA for more than a decade. I remember them plugging Aurelio's pizza all the time.

Shit, I remember that guy. They were practically crying when he died. I also remember someone proposing to his girlfriend on the air.

I remember those songs Dave Aurelio made about the Bulls. I think I got "Chicago will be champions once again" on cassette somewhere. I will have to dig that up and give it a listen for old times sake :)

I used to date Tiffany whose cousin Wilson Chan was the WMAQ Sports Huddle producer either before or after Aurelio, and Chan was always promoting his Asian restaurant in the western 'burbs - what was it?

I actually am new here and started a new thread on this program. I remember this very well including Kessler, Chan, Aurelio and all the former producers.

GD93 - a lot of your posts now say "edited" - why?
