A thousand times no. Smooth jazz is a crime against sound waves. It shouldn't have "jazz" in its name. I do like some Quiet Storm, though, but that's not really smooth jazz.

But if you're interested, there's a translator at 103.9 running smooth jazz. It's like 14 watts from the top of the Sears or Hancock, so I think the signal gets about to city limits but doesn't penetrate well.

Had to look that one up. City of license is Crest Hill. Had to look that up. Signal doesn't reliably go beyond Wheaton and Oak Lawn. Old NextMedia station, apparently, but I never did anything with the Joliet cluster.

Don Tiny, Rick O'Dell is off WDCB and peddling his anodyne bilge on the 103.9 translator (which technically translates WTMX-HD2, what a loophole) and a piped-in service at O'Hare/Midway. It's like Brian Eno's Music for Airports, if Brian Eno were shitty.

Radio historians will remember that 94.7 tried to go after US99 in the '90s as "Kicks Country." Failed miserably, flipped to alternative or classic rock or '80s or something, I dunno, 94.7 was all over the place for a good ten or twelve years before it dawned on them to pick up the oldies that 104.3 dropped.

What? Just "Alabama"? That's the worst stripper name I've ever heard in my life! I remember reading some interview with Harvey Wells in the Illinois Entertainer or one of those where he talked about getting started in Carbondale or someplace downstate and just going by "Harvey" on the air. He came up to Chicago with his just-plain-Harvey demos and was promptly told "if you're going to be on the radio in Chicago, you're going to have to have a last name." Now you don't just skate by with no last name, you can purport to be a whole shitty state. What an age we live in. And the supreme irony is that her birth name appears to be "Amber Cole," which could also be a stripper name in and of itself but is probably her real name and perfectly suited to radio. I mean, somewhere there's a Rebecca Herskovitz trying to break into this business and she'd love nothing more than to use "Amber Cole"!





Personally, I just hope this earns Adam Hoge's gay half-brother some begrudging acceptance from his family.
