Radio moves: Buffone to land at Webio; McNeil-WSCR close
Posted by Ed Sherman at 5/29/2009 5:47 AM CDT on Chicago Business

Look for Doug Buffone to land at chicagosportswebio.com. Former Bears teammate and radio sidekick Ed O'Bradovich will join on the Internet sports talk site.

Mr. Buffone recently parted ways with WSCR after a long run at the station. He will be a nice pick-up for Webio. I've always enjoyed his old-school passion and intensity. He and "OB" had the best Bears post-game show in town, especially after a loss. You almost could feel the veins bursting in their heads because they were so angry. It made for great radio.

As for WSCR, you have to think a few of the on-air personalities are looking over their shoulders with the expected addition of Dan McNeil. Talks continue, and it would be a major surprise if it doesn't get done soon. Both sides want this reunion to happen.

When it does occur, there will be a shake-up in the lineup. Will SCR reunite Mr. McNeil with Terry Boers in the afternoon? If so, then where would Dan Bernstein land?

Does Mr. McNeil go to mornings, middays? Wherever he winds up, it is going to cause some dominos to fall.

Stay tuned.

Doug and OB to webio?

That'll be awesome for Bears post-game. Get in the car after the game, fire up the laptop, log on to the site and listen on the way home.....oh wait.

It's better than not at all. I'll probably put it on. I think this was a smart move.

When does Zach Zaidman's contract expire?
This guy is so absolutely brutal and so non-Chicago.
Whatever happens, get this guy out of town.

I would have preferred Doug and OB on a traditional outlet. I think they sold themselves short by going to the webio.

It's hard to listen during post game yard work or exercise when you don't have remote access to the web.

Where do you think they could have gone? I would think their options are limited.

It's not perfect, but you can probably podcast it...Most days, after games, I do have access to the Internet so it's not a big deal to listen from the computer.

It would be nice to be able to listen from my Blackberry.

I think I wrote in another thread that they probably could have become the face of post game on another station. WGN would seem to be a perfect fit. They have a newly stated desire to be edgy. At the same time old farts know Doug and OB.

I thought they could also go to a place without a postgame like WLS. They certainly could have scored bigger ratings than WLS current 3-6 Sunday afternoon lineup.

If they wanted to be really bold, they could have gone to a station on the FM side that sells its weekend airtime.

Mackey is doing some soul searching. Does he really want to cave and work middays for $100k?

Mac has already signed. He takes over mid days in early June.

I question that I want answered is why the hell WSCR let Doug & OB leave!

Chicagolandradioandmedia.com/Larz further states that Mac has secretly signed on dotted line, and will be taking over the mid-day slot in early June. Announcement next week.

Meatpants not mentioned, but that could work either way. Meaning he's already signed, signing in the near-future, or..?

So we'll sit back and watch this further develop.

Am happy that Buffone & OB got a new gig. I wasn't tired of their rants, and remember, even WITH Cutler, the rest of the team is the Bears from last year. There'll continue to be things to get wound up about...

Happy for Doug & OB,too! They are the BEST!! Waiting for Cutler to blow up at the GM
in the middle of a 1-5 start for supplying him with no WR's!! Remember this prediction!!
Hope,I'm wrong,but check that schedule.

Doug and OB will not be here by that time. Fuzzy is in his early sixties and OB has to be pushing 70.

Bold should let you do that assuming there is a solid 3G signal in your area.

But what is mid-day? 10-2? 10-12? 12-2? Shave M&H and 9-something? In any case, Mr. Holmes' shot clock is about to expire, I suspect.

Actually, the Bears have one of the easiest scedules in the NFL this season. I think it ranks 28th or 29th.

What? Replace Bob Brinker? The host of the Starship Moneytalk for lo' the past 20 years?? Just when I was thinking of getting into those Ginnie Mae funds.

I agree WGN might have been a good fit, but as far as that station's desire to become edgy... :drunken: Well I just posted about that last night and won't repeat myself, but, in the name of Carrie's corset, they're still way closer to being Colonel Potter than to being Hawkeye Pierce. Well, maybe Hawkeye Pierce today.

The Score would never have let Dan McNeil go on the air last Friday without a contract being signed.

Dan McNeil has signed.

I hope that Mitch Rosen does not break up Mully and Hanley. They do a great show and are great guys. I owe them alot. They supported me and I can't thank them enough.

Haven't you been spending time hear bashing score management for how dumb they are? I could totally beleive they would let him on air not signed.

M&H put on a decent show but not a great show. Both men lack the wit to consistently "crack funny". Therefore, the show seem's dry & boring at times.
Mully tries to over compensate for this by screaming. Loud does not equal funny!
I think both guys would do a much better job with a partner who can "lead".

I wonder, could they stream the audio over cell phone with a IPhone or Blackberry app? Or is it just too difficult with the current infrastruture?
