Esther was one of the first fighters against the murders of women in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. She eventually started the first battered women's shelter in the city (though her secretary was murdered on the shelter's doorstep as part of the femicide).

An incredible woman and a dear friend who always made me feel welcome and to continue the fight.

I'll miss you, dear friend, and I hope we'll meet again on the other side.

Umm, she didn't actually arrange for the secretary's death, right?
