How does phpbb stay in business with the shitty performance of this web site? I assume that this place is significantly cheaper than other message board hosting sites? It really is unbelievable how bad this site is & its getting worse. Are there different levels of performance/bandwidth that can be purchased? If so, I'll bet if Big Fan did a little fundraiser he would raise enough dough to at least get the fucking search function to work.

I'm loathe to bitch about the board, because it is, well free. That said, the problems here lately are frustrating to say the least. I'm with Spaulding in thanking bigfan for keeping this site going.

Logic suggests he should look for a new hosting company. Granted it might cost more. If that's the case, I'm just wondering how much money we could raise to cover the costs. I've donated in the past and will do so in the future.


It's just frustrating, being that it's 2011 and this site performs worse than an Angelfire site back in the '90s!

Exactly. I'll be glad to donate if I know that others will & that it will make a difference, because donations from others obviously not changed anything.

I just cant understand how a business like this with such poor performance & service is still in business. They shouldn't be.

Scorehead, it's Open-Source which means the software is free to anyone and everyone. That's not the issue, the Phpbb software is fine.


That being said, once you make customizations to it, you then have to know how to manage it properly.

Entirely separate from that, is the hosting. The servers, in other words. For one, if the servers are actually in Australia, that's bad. But it also seems they just don't do a good job of managing it, or their own resources. "They" being the hosting company, which has no affiliation to Phpbb. They just use the free software.

It seems that when mults started to disappear, the performance of this board took a dive. It cannot be a coincidence.

Oh Brother. The point is that other board members have made donations but the site performance hasn't changed.
One person donating $100 dollars or whatever isn't enough to do anything, so maybe we can get enough people to donate enough money so that it will be enough to improve the performance. Call it a fund raiser I guess.
On the other hand, I hate to give money to the clowns that run this site.
