Mac just informed us in the MJH section. Mr. Chicago loses again. The Hall of Famer loses another ratings period to the National show out of Bristol. Hey Mitch instead of dumping more money into the show why don't you just blow it up.

They gave Pappy the billboards he requested and the Sox were suppose to help him to. They run promos saying "Pappy's a Chicago guy", "We talk Chicago sports."

Yet a dumb jock born in Cleveland and a metro sexual born in New York have beaten Pappy for the past 2 years. Talking about national sports topics. That shows me that people in Chicago aren't the meat heads that the Score runs ads for. That's why nobody listens to their morning meat head.

When does North's contract finally expire? It seems like we've been talking about the $1.7 million albatross forever. Is he getting paid through 2020?

Midge, I believe it’s July of 2007.

Pappy half-joked this morning that the suits at Clear Channel are crossing off the days on the calender until July of 2008 when his contract runs out.

So they are just like the rest of us, waiting for the clown to be gone.

If things were as terrible as we all see, I'm sure there is an out clause in his contract with Clear Channel that they could dump him for a buyout. They haven't reached that point yet, unlike many of us listeners.

Hawk, why would they dump him? They have absolutely nothing to replace him with.

I'm sure the spin is, yeah, but these ratings take in mostly the time period before we made the changes (less Anne, less politics and social commentary, more sports talk) and before Bears mania really kicked in. If he loses again to ESPN this quarter, then I think he's flat out of excuses--not that that will stop him from making some up anyway.

I personally don't care for North and his overbearing style, his yelling all the time in his bad Chicago accent, and his whole Rat-Pack-wannabe, street-smart act, no matter what kind of a format he's doing, but EVEN I have to admit the show has inched its way up on the listenability scale since the days of the constant interviews with Dick Durbin and third-rate Zanie's comedians and the endless death penalty debates and George Bush arguments with Anne.

Relax, MU, I meant 'we' as if North and his crew were speaking and telling us their excuses. I neglected to put it in quotes. I assure one and all that I do not now, nor did I ever, have any connection to the Score, the Mike North Morning Show and its crew, nor any other employees of the Score--or WMVP, for that matter. I'm just a simple, humble listener with no inside information--other than what I get from this board, of course!

Mike is under contract with CBS, not clear channel. CBS radio is run by idiots, they have more to do with a big contract like that then Mitch did. At SCR they should send CKG thank you letters, because if it weren't for them, CBS radio would probably have made many changes at the score, but CKG is their main cocern in Chicago, I would assume.

If North can get beat by a national show, you could put anyone on the radio to do that. hell, syndicate Tony Bruno - he's a better listen than North.

WCKG's ratings are in the toilet since Howard Stern left for greener pastures.

of course this is the thread Rock doesn't post in. I still appreciate his comments, seems like a good guy, even though I called him a "dick", on the phone one morning.

Can someone resummarize the 7 figures contract story? I call bullshit. More like connections, pictures, weapon, etc, more believeable.

North walked into Dan Mason's office in the CBS building in NY wearing an unbuttoned White Sox jersey and sunglasses and walked out with a 7 mil contract. Believeable enough? Seacrest might correct me on minor details and maybe even add what exactly was done or said but this is pretty much it.

Not at all. Was Tom Hagen with him?
