Art Ginsburg, the delightfully dorky television chef known as Mr. Food, died at his home in Weston, Fla., Wednesday following a struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was 81.

:(

I remember Joel Daly being inordinately excited about the Mr. Food segments.

I found some Mr. Food cookbooks a few weekends ago, helping my hoarder parents clean out their basement. Suffice to say that we as a culture have moved beyond this style of cooking. There's no place in our Food Network world for "here's a great recipe for stuffing! Buy a box of stuffing!"

If this guy was the inspiration for the "Swedish Chef", these really are tough times down on Sesame Street.

I just happened to spend the last half hour or so watching the channel 7 news from some winter night in 1979 and was enjoying a young Joel Daly as well as the not-dead Tim Wiegel and John Coleman .... who would've guessed Joel would outlive those two and Mr. Food .... or is it Mr. Dead! now?

Is that an upset for men or an upset for women?

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving
hysterical naked,
Dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for a Seven Layer Dip,
Angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the
Bread Bowl Fondue in the machinery of night,
Who poverty and tatters and hollow-eyed and high sat up smoking in the
supernatural darkness of cold-water flats floating across the tops of
cities contemplating Baked Alaska,

My Rachael Ray impression sounds too much like my Danny Bonaduce impression. "E-V-O-O! DIG THAAAT!"
