The White Horse and Garcia's on Green St. have been torn down to make way for another apt building. I had many nights I barely remember at the Horse and if I had a dollar for every gut buster I threw down at that Garcia's, I'd have a big pile of dollars.

A moment of silence, please.

Whenever I would visit and go on a vacation drunk bender, the White Horse was visited each time.

I thought the white horse was in Elmhurst.

When I was living there in 5th and 6th grade going to Garcia's was a real treat. I thought we went to
The White Horse for breakfast as well a few times but maybe I am thinking of a different place. This was
the mid-80s mind you. I haven't been to Champaign for a long time probably 10 years.

I've been to both of those places. Reason, what was a Gutbuster again? Wasn't it like a rectangular individual pizza or something?

I'd wager you've eaten far worse things after a night of drinking, if you catch my drift.

Used to live across the street from the old White Horse. Wasted an entire summer there one year instead of going to tax accounting class - it was a great summer.

Hung out at the new White Horse in Campustown after a football game last fall (I think it was the old Coslow's). It's not the same. Probably because we were 3x older than everybody else in the place.

I am among the few that care. Thanks for the post.

That Garcia's was vacant for years, right?

My Al Bundy moment came in the early 80s playing Champaign park district softball. I was the starting first baseman on the championship team and squeezed a foul pop for the final out in the last game. After each game we enjoyed a few frosty beers at the White Horse Inn. Good memories.

WhiteHo was a complete shithole, but in a good way. Weird layout that was more conducive to have mud-wrestling and cock-fighting matches than running a bar. My brother met his wife there.

Campustown has changed a great deal over the last 10 years. Most of the gross, hole-in-the-wall, shitholes are gone (except KAM's). As far as Garcia's, my roommate worked there in college. I thought their pizza was shit. Good riddance as far as I'm concerned.

I'll miss the "If you look to the sky...." announcement at football games to see the Garcia's hot air balloon.

O'Malley's was the greatest shithole of them all. I miss that place. Still have my plastic Thursday Night mug. Always planned to "Drink the Wall" until do-gooders realized it led to alcohol poisoning. Damn you, alcohol poisoning!
