I wasn't even alive when Bishop played the role, but if it weren't for Bishop, Koz might be selling real estate today instead of fending off rubber chickens w/ a cardboard shield.

Rich Koz dedicated last weekend's "Svengoolie" shows to Jerry G. Bishop's memory last weekend. Koz definitely looked up to Bishop during the "Son of Svengoolie" years from 1979-86 when WFLD 32 was under different management, and got permission to shed the "Son of" when Koz joined WCIU 26 when the station became The U in 1995.

I thought Bishop became a successful radio/TV personality, as well as restauranteur in San Diego when he bolted Chicago for good in 1978...
