Played the father on the NBC Show Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Was also the voice of Shredder on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and was the voice of the Junk Yard Dog in Hulk Hogan's Rock n Wrestling.

Wasn't he gay? IIRC he had lost a lot of weight and aged a lot.

You might be confusing him w/ Reginald VelJohnson.

I don't think either one was gay. James Avery was a excellent actor to be sure and I believe that the Fresh Prince is the greatest show to have an all black cast.

For some reason I remember the same thing. Not that it mattered.

But he apparently was married (to a woman). Not that it matters.

For those of you with young children , you may have known him as the voice of Shredder in the current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles incarnation as well. Which is actually a hoot to watch.
Edit: Guess he did Shredders voice on the earlier series. My bad.

How about Sir John Gielgud as Hillbilly Jim? That is some hardcore method acting.

Avery's best role was his appearance on the Dukes of Hazzard

The lies don't stop

"It also depicted Hogan as having a full head of hair as opposed to the noticeably receding hair line he sported in the ring"

Hard to believe Brad Garett did the voice of Hulk Hogan. I vaguely remember that cartoon

The younger one grew up to be pretty good looking, as well...

First thing I remember James Avery in was in the Corey Haim/Corey Feldman movie License To Drive where he was the mean DMV test drive guy.

That's a great bad movie.

Every character played their roles perfectly. The dad cracks me up

i wouldn't say it's a bad movie. it's possibly over the top and misguided in some ways but it's pretty genuine as an 80's teen flick.

and it's funny as fuck.

Probably not any gayer than anyone else in Hollywood (or Green Bay, fwiw). But I remember tabloid headlines saying RVJ had a sexual relationship w/ Jaleel White. That shit was never worth the paper it was printed on.
