Doors closed yesterday. Coming down!

Only stayed there once, for a bachelor party, someone comped all our rooms....and that 1970's carpet and the console TV in The Bob Hope suite was well worth the freebie! I am sure than in its day, ot was a top place....

Was hoping this was the annoying concert venue on Broadway and Lawrence.

It's good, if it's not stuffed to the rafters. In the team photo for Dante's circles of hell when sold out or over-sold. Post-E2, over-sold doesn't happen (as much?).

I played Blackjack there last summer. Wife and I went to see a comedy show and stayed a little while after it was over. Place was a dump. Waitresses where in their late 40's and early 50's. Looked like their last stop after the strip clubs used them up.

The tables had stains on them and it had an old musty smell, which could have just been the waitresses. Only Circus Circus was worse then the Rivera. I thought I was going to get mugged when I walked into that place.

Yup, that would be the Riv...they had a 5 year pool renovation plan going on. took 15 years, never finished.

Convention centre is expanding on the property

They've done a great job of upgrading the hotel stock. Even a place like Planet Hollywood is a fun and affordable hotel. I have taken a liking to the city center hotels with Aria being my favorite. For my money, Wynn is the best place with Mirage the best overall value (Carnegie Deli wow). Bellagio is great but too much traffic if you decide to stay there. Aria has the best overall layout. Flamingo is still our favorite pool even though the rest of the place is a dump.

This thread made me take a peak. If that is your hotel I hope you are getting huge discount or congrats. 8)

I set up a group Vegas trip for about a dozen folks back around 2004. Whatever year the Red Sox won the World Series, as half the people on the trip were annoying Red Sox fans.

As only maybe 3 or 4 had been to Vegas before, and some of them were talked into the trip by watching Ocean's 11 (remake and original), I landed us at the Sahara (closed 2011).

Corner suite, which consisted of ginormous main room w/balcony (without beds, but multiple pull out couch / loveseat type deals), a double-queen w balcony to the left, a single with a king size to the right through which we would get to another double-queen--all for $80-85 per person for 3 nights (thur-sun). And the suite and the double next to it both had balconies overlooking the strip. Fun as we were sorta across from Circus-Circus and the Stratosphere. Plus the Sahara's main area minaret was all lit up and festive directly below us.

The gambling at the Sahara: lower-key and better odds than at the Hard Rock. Good for first-timers.

Everyone enjoyed the trip--Except my dumbass who didn't pre-collect for hotel money and so had half the folks claiming poverty Sunday when I went to collect to settle my bill downstairs. And then some folks had a room service feast/ppv movie fest in the rooms all day Sunday (they didn't make us check out until like 6 or 8 pm Sunday?) . I ended up out about $700 btw folks shorting on the hotel bill and all the room service/ppv charges. which doesn't seem like much now.

Aria is pricier than the average hotel. I don't get discounts in Vegas. I go all the time but don't lose enough money to make me a prized hotel guest.

I was needling because a quick google match search had it at 400-500 a night. I am sure you do better than that.

Now you're trying to trap me. If I pay that amount per night, then I am a big shooter. If I get that comped, then I am an even bigger shooter. I can't recall what I actually paid at that place because it was three trips to Vegas ago....probably $300/night. I took my wife, and she gets better accommodations than friends.

I have a friend who always stays at the Riv. Comps aren't what they used to be and they roll out the red carpet for him. I think they've even picked up his airfare. But I wouldn't stay at a place like that even if they gave me ten grand in chips and had Sinatra come to my fuckin' room and sing me a lullaby before bedtime.

I thought pittmike's wife and girlfriend hooked up and kicked him out? He posted something about living the bachelor life these days.

PM stopped updating us on his proto-Mormon lifestyle. Maybe that he no longer resides in the same abode as the wifey is all he was saying. I was just Investigation-Discovery-channeling PM's situation.

Ok that was my understanding. The thread moved from Vegas to Pittsburgh awful fast. Sunbelt to Rust Belt in record time.

My national organization had their national conference at the Riviera in 2010. We stayed down at the MGM and took the monorail (What's that called?) up that way for the one thing I went to conference related. The rooms at the top that we had some conference meetings at were nice and had a nice view. But I remember some SJWs getting all bent out of shape because the hotel was advertising for their t0pless revue and they found it offensive. I'm surprised it has lasted this long. I remember going outside and seeing the sign for the Fountain Bleu opening in 2009! That part of the strip was a ghost town then and I don't know if it's any better. When we went last year we didn't go north of the Encore.
