 Mark Thomas is a good guy. Great businessman. He started making shitty jewelry and little pipes in his basement when he was a teenager and he turned it into an empire.

going to high school in the mid-late 90s (94-98) in elk grove, clark+belmont had this mythical quality about it as the place that kids went to get COOL shit...

...of course, i was more about hitting gramaphone/second-hand-tunes/dave's down the street and then maybe stopping by untitled for stupid raver pants, but hey the eclectics didnt make a song about clark and diversey being the center of the universe like they did clark and belmont, so c'est la vie.

i would love to find a copy of that song cuz i haven't heard it for years. there's a small chance that somewhere in some box is an old eclectics tape from the mid 90s bought at the fireside bowl, but now you can't even find any of their shit on youtube. at least i've still got the shirt, eh?

ah well, i'm sure this news will effect some people profoundly, especially as they gloss over the part that the guy's gonna reopen a new one in avondale.

I don't think I ever met Mark, but I was buddies with his younger brother Troy growing up till about age 30 when he moved to Miami to open a food truck. Never heard a bad thing about Mark.

I have met him a number of times, good dude, but he is giving reasons of the construction is what has hurt him. The construction has been for about 45 days so far and actually gives his building a little more exposure.

fact is that his real estate became very valuable and he sold it. He took the money and ran, no need for the hardship story. He has a number of properties just west of the river, which when that gets developed he will make more money. He owns a 30,000 SF building that he rents outs to small potters, artists , etc. He didnt buy it just for the benefit of the art community, he expects the area to become valuable and then he sells. Just save me the sob story when you deposit the $2 mill in the account.

I didn't get the impression that he was spinning a hardship tale about himself, but rather that he was lamenting closing down at the corner he helped make famous. Of course, I'm sure he has enough dough to keep going there if he really wanted to, but you can't blame the guy for cashing out when the cashing is good. He isn't a kid anymore either.

One more thing about Mark, you want to talk about punching above your weight class, this guy's wife is a babe. I think he would tell you himself it's like beauty and the beast.

He outkicked his coverage.

Sarah Spain lost her mind on twitter today because Will Muschamp dared to say essentially the same thing at his intro press conference at South Carolina today.

Saying "outkicked his coverage" is a guy's way of making fun of himself and yet complimenting his wife. She turned it into a whole ordeal....
