Have not listened for awhile(any sports talk to be honest), but did catch this segment. Good segment. In regards to all the conspiracy theories on why a change, two things can be right.

A new boss in Decastro and ratings not that good.

I believe Parkins was told he was going to the Middays with Mac as he said today. As he said it was a promotion for him. I love Danny's transparency. That said, did he have no clue he might not be paired or changes might not be made? Of course he knew it might happen. With Mac and him teaming up, all at the station and him as well knew something was going on.

Now as to why the change up. Decastro wanted to go another route from the SJW of 9-6. Were rating at an all time low, no. Were they breaking records? No as well.

If the ratings were going through the roof for both, you would have today the same line up of a few months ago. They were not.

Parkins has serious talent and is young. I see his only downfall is his smugness at times. It does not come across as confidence, but arrogance and he is still a kid.

Bernstein is done IMO unless he makes a change. I listened for a few hours earlier and that show was a mess. He needs to make a change. For him he had a good run, but to be demoted by a kid and just listed to him talk now, not the same.

Goff was just terrible IMO. Not good radio. His niche is producer chiming in at times. Reminds me a little of Artie lange when he was good on Stern. Artie doing a whole radio show awful, but some good jokes here or there is his niche.

Bernstein needs to try to go national.

It is maybe 5 years too late, but he has to try it.

I, too, think he is done here.

To tell you the truth, its kinda sad. I used to be one of the people who really despised him, and, although I am glad he is out of drivetime, I didn't mind for a bit that they moved him to mid-days, . . . but he needs to go. . . for his own sake.

You can't just do what is safe, Dan. You've got to have some balls, take some risks, and be a fucking man.

Your bank account is big enough - time to take a big shot with that Golden Arrow. See what's out there.

I know you are reading this, Dan. Do it. If your wife gives you shit, just tell her to shut the fuck up. Then smack her fucking ass like you own the place.

Time to man-up, Homey.

Godspeed.

yup. you said it all right. He should have tried to go national like 5 years ago . Follow in greeny's steps. But he played it safe. Who knows, maybe he had a chance and his wife stopped him? We don't know right?

But I never liked him and terry. Both were 2 guys who thrived on mean spiritedness and negativity. Don't understand how anyone would find them an enjoyable listen unless the listeners were a bunch of douche's as well.

For me 2011 it worked. Around the time of the first Joe from Evanston call. There were a lot of idiot Score listeners pining for Kyle Ortom and other bad ideas. It was good to hear them excoriated

I will buy the technical answer that he didn't 100% Know For Certain that the changes would occur until Monday, but c'mon.

1. BBForever predicted changes at the station months before this. People at the station did not know everything, but they knew that it involved Mac - I know that for a fact;

2. Mac had Parkins on his podcast well before this, so they obviously did some talking out of school. I can't see how this news waits till Monday (uh, a simple "Hey, would you like to work with me?" had to happen); and

3. The station had brought back Mac through Webb commercials and then weekend stuff well before the announcement.

Parkins said he nobody was surprised by Mac coming back since he was doing Sunday shows. He said he was naive not to have seen what might be coming. At another point he said he wasn’t asked, he was told of the new partnership. (For the record, despite opinions to the contrary he also said the return of DeCastro was the reason Mac was back).

And that makes sense. Mac said he tried to get back to the SCORE when CBS owned it. They told him "No". The SCORE got sold, Decastro was brought in, he's known Mac for 30 years, so that's how he got back. That was the opening.

Parkins didn't know the SCORE was gonna be sold when he came back. Parkins had nothing to do with the changes.

Bernstein is scared as hell. He's not in control of the station anymore. He knows it. That's why he's less of a dick. He did not see this demotion coming. He did not see Mac and the younger guy taking his spot in afternoons. He blames Goff for fucking up his long run of king at the station. Bernstein blames Goff for losing his status and security. Bernstein is in survival mode at this point.

I have no idea what Bernstein’s relationship with DeCastro is but I highly doubt he blames Goff for the changes. Mac was Decastro’s guy and he gave him the slot he wanted. Goff had nothing to do with it.

I am not sure why you are so resistant to the obvious truth. Sure Mac and McKnight are Jimmy D’s guys. But if Bernstein & Goff made ratings that were good enough AND had a show that was “a good fun listen” and had ratings he would not have fired them for his guys.

Sometimes managers fire people just to have their guys but not in this case if the established big contract guy made them money and ratings.

The writing was on the wall as seen here and for crying out loud they were giving away commercial free hours.

Weird.

If Goff said he knew about it on Friday, are we really going to believe that Parkins didn't find out about the changes until the following Monday?

I'm calling major bullshit on that one.

Parkins probably knew or had an inkling in January when he hosted with Mac for 3 hours on a Sunday. he knew that as an audition for a new pairing. This board knew it at the time and posted as such.

Parkins said he only thought that it was a possible Mac addition to the station not a wholesale lineup change.

yea, this seems most likely

It is also the funniest, like Hughes plays this sit com dad guy on the radio, what if he was a son of a bitch behind the scenes.

I would kill for a tape of Hughes pulling a Kasey Kasem fast songs dead dog long distance dedication rant.

Hughes acts like hes Danny Thomas in FAther Knows Best, then he pulls a sniper move on Matty Grote to take out the young man.

As an aside, I bet you dudes didn't know this but there is a story that the late great Danny Thomas also shared a certain
sexual proclivity as the late great Jack Brickhouse. It involves hookers, glass tables, and a shitload of Windex and paper towel (no
pun intended there)

You bet a bunch of longtime Chicago radio geeks don't know "eggs, Danny Thomas style"?

I agree that if their ratings were better the change likely wouldn’t have happened as it did. I’m not sure what I wrote above that you disagree with. As Parkins said, Mac got a 4th strike because of his buddy. Happens all the time.

I lean toward the Hughes did it theory, but anything is possible.

I've met Grote....he's a stand-up guy. I though he was very good in the Cubs role.

Whether or not DeCastro picked ZZ for the Cubs role or not....he still had to bless it. I give him credit for bringing sports talk radio back, but I will call this a big mistake. I fucking hate turning on the score and getting larger does of ZZ. His sports thoughts have always been awful....he's an organization ass-licker....and I simply hate hearing his voice.

That's probably the crux of it right there. The Cubs have always been a buttoned down organization. (In spite of a certain GM's public drunkeness; winning a World series gets you a pass.) Grote was probably too wild and crazy for Tom Ricketts, a guy who looks like he was born wearing a pinstriped suit. Which raises the question- why leave staid old WGN for the WSCR nuthouse? The answer, as is usually the case, is money.

Both teams are mismatched with their radio flagships. Mumbling sout-sider Ed Farmer on 720??
