Does anyone know why Laurence goes to Phoenix so often? It seems very odd. I know he once owned a condo there which seemed like a good long term investment , but, of course he sold it and likely lost out on 300-500K. It just seems creepy that an older single black man from Chicago would travel to the desert so frequently. He seems to think it is really impressive and likes to show off. I just don’t get it.

I don't find him traveling there as odd as the fact that he loves to still do the show from a studio out there and he loves to talk about how they give him a studio and such to broadcast from. It is super needy and he loves the attention of hey look at me....doing my job

I assume it’s because it’s warm in the winter in Phoenix.

And friendly to the gays year round.

Larry has said being in Arizona is a tonic for his mental illness. As soon as he deboards the plane coming back he feels it getting worse.

Spiegel sadly joked about that he still regularly eats when he's not hungry. After all his weight struggles to be undisciplined violating a basic tenet of weight management added a creepy vibe to the transition.

He's not gay. It's vacation. People vacate in different ways. I snorkel in the Keys. He snorkels in Phoenix. It's fine.

Steve Stone recommended the Phoenix snorkeling scene to LoHo.

Did anyone hear the comedian Spiegel and Holmes had on to impersonate Doug Buffone last Tuesday? I didn't hear it live, a friend of mine sent me the link to the podcast. I don't think Doug was as incoherent, or dumb, as that guy tried to make him sound. Buffone passed away nine years ago so it's been a long time since I heard him on the radio, but I don't recall him making as many sexual references as that guy did. I remember Boers making a lot of those types of references.

The impression seemed more insulting than funny and seemed like an odd thing to do given Buffone seemed like a genuinely nice guy who was well-liked by everyone at the station (and respected by anyone who ever wanted to strangle Bernstein).

It starts at about the 39:45 mark: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/s ... 0674930216

Buffone's death is an overlooked aspect of the Score's decline. The Bears postgame show was not only pure raging id that was fun in the moment, but it was also fodder for the whole next week of programming.

Couldn't agree more. I had to google some of the things he yelled when the Bears lost. "Are you potso?!" Still dunno what that meant but I got the message.

That sounds like the Spiegel I know. Tasteless, tone deaf, not funny, oversensitive, smarmy, and basically just an ass clown.

It was the final nail in the coffin. The Score would have died any way, but the post-game was the last ounce of credibility at the station.

IIRC he and his wife had a baby later in life (or at least later is Doug's life) and their child liked to watch The Teletubbies. I remember Doug saying something along the lines of "Tinky Winky doesn't bother me, but that Po pisses me off!"

Calling Bernstein "Mr. Dictionary Face"

Let's go now to...Black. I don't know where you're from, Black, but...you're on the air.

It was supposed to be "Black Physicist" and Doug couldn't get out the word Physicist

Everyone loved Big Doug

I thought the story was that the producer separated his name between the name and location cells, confusing Doug with the notion of the caller Black from Physicist.

EDIT: of course, Doug still may not have been able to pronounce Physicist in this scenario. Once, he called him "Black Psychiatrist."

Last night, I caught the last segment, Larry humblebragged how he was picking up J Liesure to go to dinner in Scottsdale,
and he was listening to Harlan and Warner doing MNF on radio. He then played a clip where Harlan referred to Warner
as "a horse who needs to be ridden" or something.......I didn't really get what was so funny, but Larry was absolutely
hysterically laughing, to the point he couldn't catch his breath. Spiegs had to go along with it, adding in a chuckling tone
"Yea, that's great stuff man..." I have no idea why Holmes thought it was that funny, other than he's just different, Spiegs,
Shane and Tanny must be just cringing every night having to deal with Holmes.

There was a brief backdoor comment acknowledging some people without cable service and antenna chsn access are pirating it. Then they clammed up fast not be construed as condoning or admitting they do it too.

All week on the drive home Larry continues to talk about Arizona adventures. None of his stories are even mildly interesting.

Boogie?
So Lance Briggs is a contributor to the show now and it seemed quite obvious that Laurence was showing he knows Lance like that by calling him "Boogie" constantly. Matt called him Lance but Loho enjoys flashing his bears bonafides.

I guess “Boogie” would be appropriate for someone who allegedly left the scene of an accident to avoid a DUI.

Oh god! I just did a spit-take

Could you imagine if Patrick Kane would have pulled a Briggs? But because he's "Boogie" it's foregiven.

Is Briggs running out of money?

Notice he is doing more and more hits as a Bears expert on multiple outlets, what is WSCR paying the experts these days, Ground Round gift cards?
