Parkins is great and clearly passionate about his job so I don't know what Hatchetman is going on about.

Anyways, what a fun 3 days. Terry will forever be the GOAT. I've found myself laughing in my car while listening to the radio for the first time in a long time.

Terry's return make me think;
-how horrible Parkins is
-management realizing new blood turning off listeners
-more major changes coming
-where are the all the great old score callers? They can't be all dead.
-terry not praising any new guys
-half speed Mac with good co-host is ok
-sports talk without sjw & sabermetrics at last
-parkins has to be shaking in his boots
-love to see ratings for terry, north, Chet return
-compare these great old guy returns to b&g slop forced on listeners
-mitch Rosen got to be thinking how can I capture something like this for a daily show
-have Parkins axed from m&p instead rotation of north, rozner, Chet ,terry or other old score guys as 2nd guy with mac

The Hoiberg interview was great. That’s how it’s done.

TLDR = people like Terry Boers. Also, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

You know that's true when nobody has jumped on Terry for his uhhhs and you knows and etc. Then again, given that he hasn't had to grind out a few days a week away from home for a year and a half he's energized and putting the NOS in Nostalgia during this three day work week.

But yeah the big winner this week = Terry Boers. People like him. He's a quality radio personality that managed to stay with the times despite being sufficiently oldschool in a world where the new school is the Bernsteinian School of Social Justice

Also, did they have a Laurence tranny without MY TWI FAVORITE WORDS IN SHOW BUSINESS & UNCLE TEARY? dope!

I think that Terry is the GOAT, and these three days let everybody acknowledge it without the emotions and uncertainties around Terry's cancer treatments interacting with the end of his contract a couple of years ago.

Obviously these were a relatively easy and nostalgic three days. In a way, a re-entry to the station now that he appears to look and sound healthier.

I'd love to have Terry guest host for a day with either McNeil or Bernstein a couple of more times during September/October if the Cubs are still relevant, or do a 30 minute "sports in the 70s/80s" podcast a couple of times a month and play it on Saturday mornings when golf season ends and Ed Sherman gets sent back to whatever hole he is currently residing in.

There were several challengers within the same post. Bad thoughts throughout.

Parkins is better than Goff. But should not be in afternoon drive. He’s thin skinned, constantly trying to come across as something he is not. He’s not fun or lighthearted (other than talking about weed).

Bernstein for his faults, is what he is and never really backed down from that.

Spiegel and parkins middays was about the right speed and timeslot if you must have parkins.

Danny Mac, TB, and lighter hearted Bernstein... in some combo are drive time hosts.

HFC would get even better ratings than parko and Danny Mac. No debate.

Heck I’d be up for Bernstein and Parkins midday. “Silver Spoons Show”

Can't tell whether you're talking about Parkins or Goff.

Exactly.

Parkins is way better than Goff, but damn, that's faint praise.

Following this, Terry said that Dan has never coasted on his privilege nor intelligence and works hard every day. On the other hand, Matt and Jason both said that Dan was prone to rolling into the studio and coasting, which put additional strain on the producers. So who's not telling the truth?

Parkins and Mac are good together but Mac and Terry was great. I wish I would have caught the HFC in its day. These three days have been absolutely fantastic radio.

That seems like an odd take. He’s pretty passionate about most of the topics he talks about and actually has a knowledge base of.

Well, what things in life do you find to be his real passions?

Sports, radio, gambling, weed, politics, arguing, etc. I don’t get a DGAF vibe from him at all really.

The guy is almost too passionate. It's hard to get a word in.

yeah it was something Hank. When North was on and just doing sports with the Monsters and then the HFC it was a glorious time. Laughs all day long.

Add in Les doing updates from Wrigley, it was Nirvana. HFC used to brutalize him and George...in a good way.

You know who needs to come back? T-dub. And Julie Swieca. I miss the days of listening to mouth breathers call her and heavily breathe into the phone.

Great thread. A handful of thoughts:

1. I don't get Terry Boers. I never listened during the Heavy Fuel Crew days but I have been an on again/off again listener of Boers and
Bernstein from circa 2002 to the end of the show. During that time he seemed to be a non-entity. For someone who talks for a living he
seemed insanely inarticulate and I always thought the show was better when he was on vacation. Also, I saw him at the Printer's Row
Litfest this year, ready, willing, and able to sign books and he wasn't drawing flies.
2. Laurence Holmes deserves a second shot at a prime slot. I know Hamp and Holmes was a disaster but that was mostly Hamp not
Holmes. He's smart and he's got a softer touch with the listeners, although that seems to have been changing in recent years. I always
thought he'd be an excellent pairing with Bernstein.
3. Danny Parkins in an arrogant prick (see "I'm the show's rational thought leader") but he's also a good radio host. I'd rather have a guy
that will take some creative stances and have the brains to back it up than a non-entity like McKnight (unless it's 5:30 in the morning)
or rumbling, stumbling, bumbling Mully and Hanley.

Goff is gone and will no longer be at the Score so that does not matter.

Having the older guys together is fun, but a few months from now the show would drag. Management got it right with Parkins, he is a rising talent.

No idea why McKnight is even on the air. He adds no value at all.

Honestly Chicago talent is dried up for sports radio. Right now on the Score I think you have one good talent in Parkins, one who could have been good, but not too late in Bernstein, and everyone else.

highlights for me...true laughter by both hosts and I suspect those listening for three straight days.

Sincerely fun radio.

Danny Mac wasn’t quite as neutered in regards to giving a few people “the business” yet keeping it fun.

1. Terrible thoughts. Terry was the glue that held together 2 great shows. The last 3 days highlight that. He was funny and engaging.

2. No way. Holmes is fine in his slot. His creepiness kind of works for him there. He had his shot with Hamp and bombed. And he def does not need to be with Bernsie. His asskissing would get old in about 2 days.

3. Parkins is a good host and I agree with Mac that he is the future of the SCORE. I think he is in some ways a nice balance of what is good from Bernsie and what is good from Mac.

Terry has pretty much always been the dick that Bernstein is, but gets a pass from this board for some reason.

Yes Terry was crushed for mailing it in etc. Is he getting a revisionist break now due to retirement and illness probably but oh well. They all would.

Terry was very opinionated and could go hard on anyone. He usually was funny even if he was slightly mean. He in my opinion was never mean just for the sake of being mean.

I think the Bernstein & Goff shitshow helped us realize that even when Terry wasn't locked in, he was still very important in keeping things loose and reminding everyone that none of this stuff is really that important in the big picture. That certainly was lost on his replacement.
