Yeah, I think "have a catch" might be an East Coast thing. I've never knew anyone who said it before Field of Dreams came out.

Spiegs has said it several times. Bugs the Christ out of me. Not even in the book. (To be fair, I don't think "play catch" is either.) However, that book has the best two opening paragraphs I have ever read in any book:

My father said he saw him years later playing in a tenth-rate commercial league in a textile town in Carolina, wearing shoes and an assumed name.
