I will buy the technical answer that he didn't 100% Know For Certain that the changes would occur until Monday, but c'mon.

1. BBForever predicted changes at the station months before this. People at the station did not know everything, but they knew that it involved Mac - I know that for a fact;

2. Mac had Parkins on his podcast well before this, so they obviously did some talking out of school. I can't see how this news waits till Monday (uh, a simple "Hey, would you like to work with me?" had to happen); and

3. The station had brought back Mac through Webb commercials and then weekend stuff well before the announcement.

Parkins said he nobody was surprised by Mac coming back since he was doing Sunday shows. He said he was naive not to have seen what might be coming. At another point he said he wasn’t asked, he was told of the new partnership. (For the record, despite opinions to the contrary he also said the return of DeCastro was the reason Mac was back).

And that makes sense. Mac said he tried to get back to the SCORE when CBS owned it. They told him "No". The SCORE got sold, Decastro was brought in, he's known Mac for 30 years, so that's how he got back. That was the opening.

Parkins didn't know the SCORE was gonna be sold when he came back. Parkins had nothing to do with the changes.

Bernstein is scared as hell. He's not in control of the station anymore. He knows it. That's why he's less of a dick. He did not see this demotion coming. He did not see Mac and the younger guy taking his spot in afternoons. He blames Goff for fucking up his long run of king at the station. Bernstein blames Goff for losing his status and security. Bernstein is in survival mode at this point.

I have no idea what Bernstein’s relationship with DeCastro is but I highly doubt he blames Goff for the changes. Mac was Decastro’s guy and he gave him the slot he wanted. Goff had nothing to do with it.

Certainly possible. Based upon he story Grote told it doesn’t sound like it’s an issue with Pat.

I would agree with most of this. Danny boy is the one who fucked up. He had soo many guest hosts with Terry being sick. And he chose Goff. Made no sense. And if this enlightened mid day show doesn't do anything, I would expect them to go back to (2) mid day shows 10-12 and 12-2 with a BIG pay cut. This new show is not gonna last. It is boring as fuck.

Bernstein blames Goff for giving DeCastro the reason to make the move. If it was a good show, it wouldn't have been done. Goff gave Decastro the opening because he sucked. Which meant a demotion for Bernstein. Which means less money for Bernstein on the next contract. Or Bernstein being fired.

Decastro made the move because he likes Mac and McDoink. He’s the boss and that stuff happens all of the time. There doesn’t always need to be a reason.

Mac said that he did not like the sound of the show or the station. It was not personal. The ratings were down, and the content was shit.

Mac’s (admitted) buddy Decastro (allegedly) said that. Parkins basically said Mac was back because of Decastro. Decastro is the boss and thus he makes the call. As I said he likes Mac and McDoink and he is doing what many executives do. We’ll see how it plays out.

I agree about Hughes. He was threatened by the youngster with his 'BFF' and other internet language. Grote could also relate to the players more than Pat would just due to age.

I remember one post game last year Grote brought up the Honeymooners show. I was surprised he actually knew of the Honeymooners and gave him a shoutout last year - found here :

I wonder if he really was a Honeymooners fan? Or he just said that to please Pat. Or if Pat was like holy shit, he knows old school and new school. Maybe the whole Honeymooners thing cost him the gig as Pat was probably shitting bricks.

Don't veer off-course.

The subject at hand is Parkins having knowledge of his pairing with Mac before Monday. I might sooner believe that he did not know about the afternoon slot, but I doubt that as well.

I don't think it helps Danny P. one iota to admit that he knew this stuff before, even if he did, so sometimes you just gotta lie no matter what.

In my opinion, though, there is NO WAY that he heard about being paired with Mac for the first time on Monday.

I don't think anything less of Parkins for not admitting that, though. It is just good damage control.

I'm younger then Grote and have seen the Honeymooners. That's no big deal. Grote isn't lying about that. It was on reruns late at night when I was a kid.

I used to watch the Honeymooners at midnight on channel 9, wanna say summer of '98 or maybe '99. It intrigued me.

Parkins might have been aware of it before he says he was. I have a hard time buying he found out the day before the change was made. But my main point is he didn't mastermind it.

Just caught the podcast. Loved it. Especially Grote’s honesty about his bouts with alcohol.

And it's not an age thing between Hughes and Grote. Zaidman is about the same age as Grote.

It's just a personality thing. Grote has a younger personality. He likes to goof around.

Zaidman acts like a 70 year old when he's broadcasting. Straight laced guy. Careful. Doesn't want to offend anybody. Especially the teams that employ him. Pat likes that.

Not that Grote offends anybody. But he's just too much of a goof for Pat. Pat doesn't understand his humor or wit.

No doubt in my mind Pat got him fired.

Seems likely.

I doubt Parkins actually knew of the coming changes, but the proximity of his entrance into the market to the changes, as well as the fact that he was getting a promotion out of the deal, of the kind last gotten by Boers and Bernstein after they toiled in middays, meant that people would assume he was advised of them at the very least, if not responsible for them.

I will buy the technical answer that he didn't 100% Know For Certain that the changes would occur until Monday, but c'mon.

1. BBForever predicted changes at the station months before this. People at the station did not know everything, but they knew that it involved Mac - I know that for a fact;

Parkins might have been aware of it before he says he was. I have a hard time buying he found out the day before the change was made. But my main point is he didn't mastermind it.

That is not at issue. There is no fucking way he masterminded it.

And so what if Parkins is lying about knowing about it well in advance. The SCORE probably told him to dummy up. Spiegel was his partner. He wants the promotion. He didn't want to fuck it up. He didn't want to be the one to tell Spiegel that he's fired. Nor should he be the one to tell him.

I get that. That doesn't make him evil. What do you want him to do in the spot that he was in?

Nothing. I'm saying that I understand it, but I'm just saying that it is a lie.

Its okay to be like your brother-in-law, or numbers, from time to time.

Sometimes, its actually the right thing to do, like when a woman asks you if she looks fat.

I tell them "Yes" if it's true. That's why white women hate me. Well, one of many reasons. :(

Am I the only Cub fan that doesn't care for Pat? He sounds like someone took a shit in his cereal whenever the Cubs fail in a big spot or the other team scores. He just sounds like a sad old man. I can't wait until he retires and they call up my guy M1ck from AA.

He's in his 60s. But he sounds like a guy in his 60s that's living in the 1920s. And he sounded that way 20 years ago.

Really wonder what the reason for the Grote/Zach switch is. I think to get rid of the notion that Zach was a kiss ass. I believe Parkins was in on the shake up a little bit. He's someone who comes across as not trust worthy.

Have not listened for awhile(any sports talk to be honest), but did catch this segment. Good segment. In regards to all the conspiracy theories on why a change, two things can be right.

A new boss in Decastro and ratings not that good.

I believe Parkins was told he was going to the Middays with Mac as he said today. As he said it was a promotion for him. I love Danny's transparency. That said, did he have no clue he might not be paired or changes might not be made? Of course he knew it might happen. With Mac and him teaming up, all at the station and him as well knew something was going on.

Now as to why the change up. Decastro wanted to go another route from the SJW of 9-6. Were rating at an all time low, no. Were they breaking records? No as well.

If the ratings were going through the roof for both, you would have today the same line up of a few months ago. They were not.

Parkins has serious talent and is young. I see his only downfall is his smugness at times. It does not come across as confidence, but arrogance and he is still a kid.

Bernstein is done IMO unless he makes a change. I listened for a few hours earlier and that show was a mess. He needs to make a change. For him he had a good run, but to be demoted by a kid and just listed to him talk now, not the same.

Goff was just terrible IMO. Not good radio. His niche is producer chiming in at times. Reminds me a little of Artie lange when he was good on Stern. Artie doing a whole radio show awful, but some good jokes here or there is his niche.

Never liked Pat either. He's so boring. He's from the bay area like the other most boring announcer I don't get his appeal Jon Miller.

I get why some like him. Most of today's 20/30 somethings probably grew up with him on radio so I get that appeal.

But the guy is so boring and I got to hear him last year almost daily and he misses so many simple things on the field. Like the most obvious one telling the radio listener WHAT THE FUCKING SCORE IS when coming out of commercial break and back to the game.
