Vito, why do you hate Meatpants so much? Did he steal your girlfriend or something?

Saying Speigel is a good baseball guy is like saying Roseane Barr is hot. Memolo on MLB blends in well there I will say. Speigel is cheap and under contract. The score won't spend the bucks on an actual baseball guy so they plop Speigel in as Mr Baseball.

He'd be perfectly fine if he was paired with an ex-player.

Spiegel knows a little bit more about baseball than some of the regular hosts, but that is very low bar.

The use of superlatives describing Speigel makes this a bizarre thread. Ok, fine with an ex player, good in spots, I can see. But, Parkins and Speigel are big nothings in the list of Chicag stellar sportsradio history.

Respectfully disagree with you, vito.

Even MANY of Spieg's harshest critics over the years have admitted that his forte is baseball.

Different strokes and all. It's all good.

Baseball is his forte.....I'm not one of the haters, but I've just never found him that interesting or entertaining. He's a talented guy....just not enough there to drive / host a show on a daily basis. In fairness, though, he has company. I'd say the same for McDoink, Mulligan, Haugh, and Larry.

He's better than all those guys you listed.

And what kind of baseball expert do people expect him to be? Rarely will a host be an "expert" since they need to be well-rounded. This is why they have on Jonah Keri, Jeff Passan, and Joe Sheehan. That being said baseball is Speigel's expertise just like Mac's is the NFL.

I wouldn't say he's better than Larry. Different flavor of dork than Larry.
He's comparable with Haugh.

He is definitely better than Mulligan and McDoink.

Move down the dial.....I don't find Carmen r Silvy particularly entertaining either but I think they're better hosts than Spiegel.

Again...I have no beef with Spiegel...he's just not host material.

In terms of being a competent host, I agree with you. But Haugh is incredibly boring and like you said, Larry is a dork. Add in his redass behavior, small man desire to impress, and his over-the-top enthusiasm about his craft and I don't care if I ever listen to Holmes. Spiegel has really grown on me over the last couple years. I used to hate him but that was when I only listened to him during Transition and he was always a bag to Bernstein. But ever since I started listening to him and Parkins, I really grew to enjoy Speigel.

Is there anyone on the Score, other than Mac perhaps, that you'd want to spend 3 hours in a fishing boat with?

Speigel's forte is being a pain in the ass.

I'd take my chances with Bernstein, what the hell.
