I think part of the reason nobody gets icing--and trust me, nobody gets icing--is that they gave it such a stupid name. Baseball doesn't have grassing. If they just called it an "illegal clear" or something it might be more intuitive. You can't dump the puck to the other end where nobody else is. Duh.

Why aren't goaltenders considered a part of the team?

It's not like in football they say "The Bears outplayed the Colts and the Colts should have lost, but Peyton Manning was outstanding and that's why the Bears won".

I've never heard Kobe separated from the team though as if the team deserving of victory is decided by what Lamar Odom or Sterling Sharpe did.

The goalie is the most important position on the team, and yet when the goalie plays really well, he's not considered part of the team. It's just a weird thing they say about hockey games.

Ok, here is my question. When shit starts going crazy and a team is firing off shots left and right why can't the goalie "accidentally" dislodge his own net to basically serve as a time out to calm things down? I am guessing its some kind of interference call and would result in a PP?
