Paul Newman was in Slaphot. That at least makes it middle of the road.

The movie that could have been great was Nacho Libre. Parts of that were very funny, but most of it sucked.

I actually have the same exact feeling about Nacho Libre.....If they made it like a half hour short it would have been brilliant....but they stretched it to get to the hour and a half.

I hated Slapshot. Utterly depressed me for some reason.

Add Spies Like Us to the Stripes list. Great movie for about halfway and then they ran out of plot, lines, ideas, thoughts, sanity, etc.

No one respects Dr. Ken more than I do, but you are off your effing rocker on Animal House. It's a great movie that holds it's own with the any of the legendary bawdy comedies.

Caddyshack is not a great movie. It is more just a loose connection of poorly produced scenes but it is funny

Meatballs doesn't belong in the discussion

Stripes dies at the end like no comedy out there. Turn it off after "army training sir". Still, great stuff for the first 1.25 hours.

Spies like us may die towards the end however that Russian woman coming out of her tent in the white undies still gets me chubbed up.

Slapshot is in the same category as Meatballs.

I think I have relayed the story how I watched the movie on video the first time with my grandma. She thought it would be good because of Paul Newman. She turned it off by the time the mom from A Christmas Story was t0pless and said she lost all respect for Newman.

I couldn't disagree with you more on Animal House. Funny throughout with a great soundtrack.

"Monty Python and the Holy Grail" is the foremost best comedy/worst ending tandem of all time. "Stripes" isn't even close. I don't have an issue with the end of "Blazing Saddles."

Holy Grail is awesome but to me it does get bad at the end. Maybe I am getting old?

As far as stripes, I finish it every time if for nothing else than to see a young Sean Young and that other hot babe in their MP roles more.

Phoebe Cates trumps the comedic value of anything in Fast Times.

In that sense, I don't consider as much of a comedy as, as you say, a....coming...of age movie.
