I guess it din't really need to be added before Sox get 2 but oh well. I am as die hard Sox hate Cubs as they were. My mom's second husband is a 70 DePaul grad Cubs fan bleacher bum type and he converted her. I have a soft spot in my heart to see them happy. Am I a bad guy now too?

There's nothing wrong with wanting to see the Cubs win the WS. People are trying to use that as a strawman. My point is very simple and easy to understand. If you are a White Sox fan, then your preference is to see them win the WS before any other team. This isn't even debatable.

That was his misstep. "Before the Sox win 2nd".

Makes no sense. You want your team to win as many as possible. I can't wait for the the Cubs win and win many thereby forcing the Sox to fold as a franchise.

Before your mancrush grows too deep, realize that it's almost a certainty that Mac has no idea who Kyrie Irving is.

Blah, blah, blah motherfucking blah.

What are you guys, 12 years old?

For the record... I don't give a flying fuck who ANYBODY roots for....when you root for them....why you root for them. Why would ANYBODY give a shit. I'm not going to ask for anybody to extend me the same courtesy and let me go my way. Either way, I don't give a damn about what you think you're entitled to.

Exactly. While we are at it, why would anybody give a shit about 4 guys doing a candy draft on a radio station?

And you know what, Mac? I am 12 Years old when it comes to sports. I have an irrational love for certain teams simply because I grew up loving them. It's one of the few things left where I can be a kid and get excited over something trivial and have a bond with my fellow fans. What the hell is wrong with that? Your entire station is filled with people who despise sports. It's depressing.

Ironically, Spiegs might be the only one there who empathizes with this.

Yes, but he would be all gay about it and make it some sort of liberation movement.

There's nothing wrong with it at all. And it is irrational. Communities are formed around irrational ideas. Like the idea that the Son of God died on a cross for their sins. That organizing belief is falling out of favor and is slowly being replaced by other irrational unifiers, e.g. sports and television.

Oh yeah. I despise the "best fans in baseball" BS anyway. I'm in the belief it was conjured up by ESPN, and some of the fan base ran (and still run) with it.

I was in the car when you started your show sharing your conflicted and convoluted reasoning about your baseball allegiance. I laughed as I got out of the car. Later after transition, I dictated a post commending you on the sniping you do at Bernstein, but I had a fact wrong so I didn't post it.

The point is, nobody says you have to have an opinion or express an opinion on the radio (or on Twitter or on a message board). You don't like what people think? Then don't listen to what they say or read what they say, and if you cant help yourself then save yourself and open a tall can of STFU (like most everybody else).

You're an entertainer and you can be entertaining but what makes you so special as to calling out everyone else on a daily basis (on too many things for people to really care) and yet having some special status whereby you're to be treated differently? I can call myself a fan of yours but that doesn't mean I'm going to fawn all over you or jockey for a spot on your ALS, so wouldn't you expect a segment of your "fans" to call you out when it is obviously deserved?

Hey Mac, it's ok if you feel inadequate about your fandom. No one likes to be called out on their passion. But you give people satisfaction by coming here and engaging in such a ludicrous debate. Just let it be, grasshopper. For every battle you win, you lose two more. Kinda like your spat with Bernstein. In only a few months you'll be fishing and contemplating your navel in the waters and woods of Canada.

It's all a circle of time man. People once worshiped the Sun and now they worship the Son.

When I hear these hosts talk about the Cubs and Sox, it's pretty damn obvious where their loyalties lie. It's like if you were really in love with a girl who wasn't your wife and she came to lunch with you and your wife. You couldn't hide your feelings for that woman. Your wife is gonna know.

I don't care who anyone roots for. Mac is right about that part. Who gives a fuck? But why pretend? What's the fucking point?

It reminds me of this sleeper movie with a young Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson. (Also a pre-Seinfeld Newman!) It's called Dead Again. Anyway, Robin Williams has an uncredited role and he steals the whole movie. Branagh's character has just quit smoking and it's really obvious. He's always fidgeting and moving his hands as if he is looking for a cigarette. Williams' character notices and says to him, "Someone is either a smoker or a nonsmoker. There's no in-between. The trick is to find out which one you are, and be that. If you're a nonsmoker, you'll know." I would suggest the same thing goes for being a Sox or Cubs fan. Figure out which one you are and be that.

The who cares goes both ways

Who cares what we think of your fan resume?

Ill say this though, I could see souring on all the teams you cover over time. I understand Mac's thoughts on the Bears. I dont share them. But I could see what he's saying.

Mac roots for the teams he respects. I respect the Cardinals, the Marlins, the Packers, the Spurs, and Canada Hockey but Ill never root for em (outside of a little gambling)
