Well, Jason took over as the driver of the show.

It would be hard to be both Bernstein's and Goff's radio partner.

Goff because he's super hyper, thinks he knows a lot and feels he has to be a preacher.

Bernstein because to be his partner, you can't challenge him. He has a way of arguing that exhausts you and thus you give up. Especially with stupid people. That's why Boers just decided to be a "Yes Man". Why bother was his attitude. Drinky is at his wits end with Bernstein. But he's simply not bright enough to argue with Bernstein. His strategy is just to say weird and stupid things to Bernstein that simply make no sense.

A smart person would be good as Bernstein's partner. So that eliminates everybody currently at the SCORE.

you know, i'd say something to mock him about this.... but then again i just looked around and checked and yes indeed i DO live in a world with mirrors, so i'd better keep to myself on this one.

i haven't really listened to any more than a combined 5-10 segments of spiegel and goff (cuz as i've joked in the past, i get my "goff" fix during the 10-1 shift listening to darren gough along with adrian durham on talksport when i do sports talk during that time) but i'm willing to bet that goff isn't too radically different from when i listened to him years ago (he used to call me his "stan" FFS so clearly i must know all about the guy, right? =) and that means i think over time he could end up being pretty good as he spends more and more time hosting radio and then the experience combines with his ability and he gets better with age in what i'd think is almost surely a middle-aged-man's job/area/etc.....

....but the one thing i didnt count on was his ego going through the roof (IT'S GOOD TO BE THE KING!) and that being something that could stunt his development, cuz from what i can tell from reading a lot of the showthreads since the return, goff certainly feels himself like he's masturbating..... and given what i've heard people criticize about his actual output it sounds like he IS into oratory masturbation (that "verbal viagra" nickname CH gave him has been slept on so far.... #NevarForget) and that's likely a byproduct of that whole "i'm the shit" mentality that it sure seems like he's taken on, cuz you know, it IS good to be the king!

so hopefully over time his ego can shrink and allow for that natural development cuz i think he can be a pretty good-n-cromulent sports talk host in chicago, it's just not right now as #TheReturn has that ego huge and what does he need to change/work-on when he's already the fucking king? c'est la vie, no?

Even if this show is canceled/retooled, it's replacement will almost be guaranteed to be worse because there is no one in the bullpen that's entertaining. That's what these young WSCR guys don't get. It's not enough to watch sports and have knowledge. You have to be compelling, entertaining, and provocative. Why the fuck else would anyone want to listen what you have to say? Seriously, WSCR dudes. You all need to contemplate this conundrum. Who on their roster would anyone actually want to sit down and have some drinks with while talking about sports bullshit? None of these younger guys elicit a reaction from me other than confusion as to why they are on the air to begin with.

i think it's a fait accompli because they all think since they're at/on the score and their words are being amplified by a 50kw torch of truthiness (and all the internet streams) that therefore they've already "won" and since they've been chosen to have this "signal boost" they're worth listening to (cuz "uh, [whoever], i think [their boss/es @ WSCR/CBS] know a little more about good radio than you" </lawrence>) and even if you put a trained dog on the air people would listen simply because they're on the air.

and i think it's also having something to do with today's era of "social media" where any jamoche can go on the internet and theoretically have their words heard/read by millions. nowadays merely having that corporate/media "tapping" or "validation" behind their utterances = paramount compared to everyone else..... in a day-n-age where everyone can theoretically be heard, people don't have to be any good at their trade, they just have to be there backed by a big proper media company and that's enough to say I'M THE SHIT LIKE YOU BETTER NOT BE OUT OF TOILET PAPER!!!! and by and large we worship whoever is there in the big/traditional old-media gatekeeper roles simply because they're there, not necessarily because they're any good (SEE: FALLON, JIMMY)

so yeah, basically you have to get to the core of their persona and convince them that they haven't won @ life yet even tho they have the big-media validation, because now simply having that is worth even more than being any good @ media/communicating was back in the day. nowadays our society as a whole worships ppl who are there, not necessarily people who are any good.

Goff is that way in person. Terry to an extent, at least in the past.

Just 'Keepin It Real, Bruh'

Didnt blame either one and Jason might be better with Bernstein (Bet Bernstein doesnt approve that!)

If it doesnt work, it doesnt work....calling it like I see 'em.

I honestly think Jason should take Lawrences show ASAP. I think he would develop it into something popular

Remember that time McCaffrey did a fill-in show around March/April and said that the Score was full of smarmy management-ass-kissing snobs who weren't relating to their audience? Did he get put on donut-display-spinning duty for a week after that?

3/13: Kyle Schwarber is Babe Ruth

Brendan McCaffrey just did a segment on how the Score has stopped being the "Voice of the Fan," we grew up thinking the front office guys were the bad guys but now we treat the players as the bad guys, and how the station needs to continue to challenge the decision-makers in town.

I'm gonna feel so bad for him when he gets fired.

Score talk, schmore talk, I wanna know more about this brain-eating crimefighter.

My thoughts exactly. And as my posting history shows, I like Goff and Spiegs. It is the combination of the two that does not work. The fact that this station has caused me to listen to ESPN 1000 is almost unthinkable, but that is what I have on right now.

The more I think about it, but recent "love" for Kap revolves around these things:

1) Treat callers with respect,
2) Ok to cheer for home teams,
3) Mainly talk sports with a Chicago focus,
4) Show passion,
5) Equal amounts of hate and love for things happening on the sports scene (i.e. positive and negative view points in equal balance).

Except for M&H, the other shows are lacking more than one of the above. LoHo may hit all five, but his but gets old and annoying pretty quick.

Someone from the Cubs makes a call...hey, we want this guy to part of the family.

Thats your pending midday show right now.

Kap likes Finji
So does Mitch
Finji, works his ass off.
if his contract allows it...

The Score almost offered Kap the last time the midday show was 'open.' Do you think they offer him for real this time before the 2016 Cubs season? I could see it and I would like it. I actually think Kap and Co. and B&B could fit on the same station (if Terry doesn't retire this winter as he has hinted). Would be quite the contrast of two shows, but could happen.

Best case scenario would be M&H mornings, Kap and Co. middays, Mac and Spiegs afternoons, Goff nights.

Where do you have Bernstein? The "Co." in "Kap and Co."? Fired? Quitting sports radio to pursue a bright future in crisis public relations? Burying himself with Jerry Reinsdorf when he dies, great-pyramid style?

I said "Hello Preacher" when seeing him in person .

He was confused and left, I explained myself to Spiegs

Yes, everything is about telling people how to do things...then followed up with a "live your life"

In all, it comes down to speaking and not saying anything.

dude, just be yourself.

Goff is second to Les at the station in terms of genuinely loving sports. I don't know who he thinks he's fooling when he does the Bernstein thing. He's not a great thinker who just happens to talk about sports (and neither, for that matter, is Bernstein), he's a guy who called the Score for years and then got a job at the Score. He's the Joe Benigno of brothers. How much of his adult working life has been spent outside sports talk radio?

Exactly. Their schtick grew tiresome years ago. If Mully and Hanley are drawing the highest ratings or ratings share while producing a show that is mostly sports driven, then it should behoove the others to produce a show that is mostly sports driven. For some strange reason they decided a while back that it was cool to belittle the hard core sports fan. They took their cues from Bernstein on that one. McNeil also, though he was passionate about Football at least.

Goff sounds like a reasonably smart guy when he simply talks sports. The trouble is he is constantly laughing at things that are not funny or he is 'representin' the brothers in some fashion, both habits which are annoying as hell.

He wants to be known as a personality that happens to talk sports as opposed to the sports nerd that he actually happens to be. There are very few guys that can actually pull that off successfully and he is not one of them. Boers was good at it and so was North, Hood, and Coppock. They had stories that were interesting to me. The other guys not so much.
