to your question, gloop, i don't mean that. i think in this instance it is foolish to give up high draft picks for a guy who likely won't reach his potential with this coaching staff. i'm all for a skilled quarterback fronting the bears. i think this is a risk/reward dealio. i'd pass.

Then what is to be done with this coaching staff? Isn't one of their primary functions to evaluate and develop their employees? Why the hell do we have to accept the fact that our ownership doesn't see that they're just dumping money on "products" (players=commodities) that will never fulfill expectations because they are not used correctly. God, I hate this team - I wish they would've moved out of state a decade ago like they were talking about so I could have just divorced myself from this shitty franchise...

Uhuhuhuhum....Can I issue a retraction?   I'm just so used to the beloved falling short in a bidding war such as this that I tried to brace myself for another disappointment. GREAT job, Jerry! hackwilson's ribbies + meatball fan = match

Mackyfish, you might have had a point if you said why get Cutler if you have no one for him to throw the ball to.

If they suck this year, Mike Shannahan will be in town next year.

because quarterbacks make receivers 99 percent of the time, not the other way around.

To Mac's point about QB's making receivers and not the other way around, just look up here in cheeseland.

Who were the wideouts for Brett Favre? Only one hall of famer, eh, Sterling Sharpe.

Think about the rest. Freeman, Brooks, Driver, Rison, Chmura, Franks, Schroeder, Beebe, Kitrick Taylor, and an odd assortment of others.

I didn't think the Bears had the resources or the guts to pull off this trade for Jay Cutler. I'm absolutely, positively surprised & humbled, fans. Most "experts" had him going to places like Washington or Tampa Bay instead of here...This better not be a repeat of the Rick Mirer fiasco with Seattle or both GM Jerry Angelo & head coach Lovie Smith better update their resumes!

Mirer was on the road to semi-bustdom when that trade was made. Apples and, well, maybe something closer to apples. Rotten apples, perhaps.

Perhaps Cutler would feel secure only if Denver invited Uncle Rico to camp to compete with him.

Now to complete the acquisition, there has to be a Sean Salisbury sighting at Halas Hall.

When did the Eagles make the Super Bowl?

The year they had TO.

Do you honestly expect Cutler to put up the same numbers he did in Denver with the retread receivers the Bears have? Or will you just blame Lovie and the boys?

The Eagles also got contributions from Todd Pinkston and Greg Lewis.

How did Alvin Harper do in Tampa when he didn't have Aikman getting him the ball?

How was Randy Moss' production with the Raiders?

Great quarterbacks make stars out of receivers.

Cutler already has had an impact as he got Urlacher to pick up the phone and talk with Silvvy. Only took Cutler to break a 4 year muzzle on 54's silence with the Chicago media.

Nice job to Sillvy and his staff.

I never really thought about Mac's point much that a quarterback makes the receiver. I always assumed it was a symbiotic relationship - you have to have a quarterback with a strong enough arm and accurate passing to hit a receiver who has enough speed to separate from coverage.

I'd be interested to see how this scenario plays out with Hester and Bennett this year.

I'm glad I was wrong on this...This deal looks like a long term doozy for the Bears. I'm still reminded of what GM Jerry Angelo said about "stabilizing the quarterback position" right after the season ended, and for once, Angelo FINALLY GOT THIS ONE RIGHT!

Thanks, Phil...I'm definitely eating plenty of humble pie on this one, but the more I think about it, the more I like the deal for the Bears. Besides, at chicagobears.com, fans can order a replica #6 Cutler jersey, home or away, for $80. I'm not making this up!

Torry's available, AF3. I think that's part of why Hub Arkush isn't as sold on Jay Cutler in a Bear uniform as so many other fans...Hub is really down on this receiving corp, and it's hard not to argue when Devin Hester was the team's leading receiver with just over 600 yards for the year!

The question still stands..... Do you honestly believe that Cutler can throw for even 3500 yards with the crappy receivers that they have?

Do you agree or disagree with the assertion that in the history of big trades in the NFL that most of them have ended up being more beneficial for the team that received draft picks rather than the current or future superstar that was traded for?

Yes. But never, in the history of the NFL, has a pro bowl QB been traded when he was under 30 years old. Cutler is well below 30.

Guess what? It will never happen again.

Unless you believe that the Bears are deserving of some amazing karma for decades of bad football QB play doesn't this throw up some question marks?

Why is Jay Cutler so easily traded by a team because of a stupid squabble over a failed trade for a clearly inferior QB?

Either the Broncos are the dumbest offensive judges of talent in the NFL or the Bears are. Do you trust Jerry Angelo to be the genius in this one?

Why? Because some "in-over-his-head" kid is the coach of the Broncos and has a "my penis is bigger than your penis" thing going on. This guy is totally insane. He'll be fired in 2 years and never be a head coach again.

So you are placing your faith in Jerry Angelo's offensive talent judging because you feel that the people running the Broncos are insane?

I don't know about you, but that doesn't exactly calm my fears on why the Broncos were so willing to get rid of the savior.

Why the hell wouldn't you trust Mike Shanahan? He's one of the greatest offensive minds in the game. He picked Cutler. He loved him. This new coach got rid of him. Not only that, 10 teams wanted him when he was available.

Shit, Jerry Angelo picked your beloved Kyle Orton didn't he? So he must know something.

Cutler is a good QB. I would have taken him out of college too. That doesn't change the question marks now.

My beloved Kyle Orton? Here we go again. I thought Kyle Orton was better than Rex. He was. I thought Kyle Orton would improve last year when given a training camp to be the starter. He did. I thought he would improve again next year. He will.

I'll take Cutler over Orton easily. I'm just not sure that I take Cutler over Orton + 2 really high draft picks + 1 good draft pick.

My guy is Drew Brees but I will be rooting for Orton to succeed in Denver.
