Well good for him if he can get the gig. Who knew the guy who would re-gift the gift cards he got for doing local cable appearances would get a nationally televised gig.

Can he grow a beard? That and/or a pro makeup artist will probably solve the chin issue.

I'm normally against regifting, but when it's someone's 3rd wedding and they ask for gifts, they deserve the regifting. Someone should do an AITA here on Reddit for this story and see how it lands.

Edit: I might write it up and put myself in the spot of Parkins in writing it for shits and giggles because I think getting an unbiased view on this would be fun

Oh Spiegs asked for gifts? I had forgotten that. Though while it might be a little lacking in the class department, answering it with your own showing of tactlessness might be a little much.

That explains why Parkins got mad at Grote. Grote kind of let the cat out the bag on Thursday or Friday. Parkins went ice cold on him.

Parkins’ exit might prompt The Score to revamp its lineup. Industry buzz has Jason Goff in the mix to return to the station and rejoin Matt Spiegel, who has been Parkins’ partner since 2021. Goff worked with Spie-gel middays from 2015 to ’17. After Goff replaced the retiring Terry Boers alongside Dan Bernstein in the afternoon, former boss Jimmy deCastro unceremoniously let him go in 2018 as part of lineup changes.

Bernstein could've had a job with ESPN decades ago, but he passed up the opportunity because he didn't want to live in Connecticut.

So he chose to be a shock jock with Terry Boers instead.

What I'm saying is we could wind up with Goff back.

Yep. Mitch wants to undo what deCastro did and ceremoniously bring back his hand-picked choice to take over afternoon drive.

I don't know the economics of this, but would it be a big come up if one of the OG Barstool Chicago guys got a daytime part on 670? Like say Eddie Farrer. Or is the Barstool job much better than a job at 670 at this point in time?

None of them would leave Barstool for a mainstream job. As crazy as it sounds, Barstool is the less risky job as you aren't going to get canned for saying the wrong thing, especially with Dave fully in control now and Big Cat essentially as his consigliere. That's job security you can't beat and it probably pays about the same. Even if you do everything right at 670 and don't piss your bosses off with your opinions, you always run the risk that Audacy pulls the plug on live local sports talk or downsizes as the market for the product continues to shrink.

20 years ago, you absolutely would make that jump, but how we as consumers consume media has changed in such a manner that moving to radio wouldn't be a good career move.

He talked about it on several occasions in the early days of B&B. Greenberg, who was/is a close buddy, wanted him to make the leap to ESPN, and they apparently had some spots for him. But he repeatedly claimed he didn't want to leave the area, nor did he want to give up the lifestyle that working at the Score afforded him.

Honestly that just sounds like BS. I'll bet the real story is Bernstein tried lobbying for a job at ESPN but was turned down and then claimed "I was offered but didn't want to move."

The reality is that a Duke alum like Bernstein would always be more at home in CT than in Chicago.

Absolutely. Plus WSCR/Audacy has built its corporate identity around neoliberal minority identity politics whereas Barstool's corporate identity revolves around white reactionary populist identity politics. Mitch's choice for Parkins' replacement, no matter who it is, will need to adhere to the Audacy corporate agenda, which uses minority identity politics to help re-legitimate the crumbling political/social order that has been hegemonic for the past 45 years.

It certainly could be BS. I am not a radio insider, so I am merely repeating Bernstein's claims. It's important to remember, though, how innovative Bernstein was in the early part of his career. It's hard for me to believe that he didn't have many offers to move to other roles--either in Chicago or nationally.

Bernstein was definitely better than any of the other Chicago guys who went national. I think he always seemed to buy into the idea that he was part of something by being a relatively early joiner to 670 and the comfort factor makes a lot of sense.

It would honestly be funny just for her to claim "she got rejected for being a woman" and completely ignoring the fact she torched every bridge back to that station (and honestly any future employer)

She accused the male producers working there of watching porn on company time. I don’t know that you can rehire that without having a severe HR issue from the producers.

For whatever it's worth, the first porn I ever saw as a kid was in the control room of a radio station.

Her failed lawsuit against Deadspin (it got dismissed immediately) pretty much guaranteed that no media company will ever hire her again. She is going to be permanently unemployed in the industry of her choice. She'll cast herself as being a strong independent woman, but the only reason she is even able to do that is because she gets to live off of her husband's earnings. So strong!
