Jason opines today that Puig failed because everyone hated him. He's very sad about this...

Was listening to that, and it was awful. Every possible explanation for why Puig completely fell off a cliff was met with some version of "that's because he felt sad because of the Fun Police". Nothing was Puig's fault, not his failure to adjust, not his attitude problem with teammates, not showing up late to team functions/transportation, nothing. It's all the fault of "[Whitey]".

Sucks too, because his thoughts on White Sox fans vis a vis Rick Hahn and a rebuild were absolutely spot-on.

The Dodgers are still screwing him considering they have a 2B playing a corner OF spot while still starting Utley at 2nd who is a complete waste.

you could tell Matt was trying to slowly edge into making more of Puig's failures (inability to hit a certain pitch) but he didn't want to come out and directly contradict Jason. Speigs has a tone of voice when he's disagreeing with something but knows it isn't popular with the person he's arguing with...kind of a tone of voice that says "I'm really not being serious but I think this could happen" voice. With Bernsie yesterday he was saying that Heyward's helmet flip on the squeeze bunt would jump start his batting. You could tell Matt believed that to be a possibility but he couched it with his tone of voice, "silly me, look at this silly opinion I may believe in..."

Plus it's not "Fun Police" when you get benched for turning a double into a single by breaking into your homerun trot on a ball off the base of the wall.

But that's at the heart of posing at the plate. All it takes is one time being wrong and it might cost your team a game. If we're just there for "fun", by all means do what ever goofy stuff you want. But bernstein would be the first guy to want to run Baez or Russell out of town if they stood posing at the plate and turned a double or triple into a single and the Cubs lost a playoff game by a run. He'd probably make an excuse for Bryant or Rizzo though.

It's also completely reasonable for your teammates to get pretty pissed at you when you are routinely late to the bus and other team functions. They're making sacrifices and showing an effort you're obviously not so keen on making.

"Fun police" is one of the dumbest concepts to ever come out of the 1-6 show. The next hour they'll turn around and tell you "baseball is a business" and how important the revenue streams are, etc. Is the player a professional businessman or a little kid having fun? Make up your damn minds.

I mean, we all know that "Fun Police" is a proxy for "racist white" used by the self-hating Caucasian doing afternoon drive. Never once seen the FP tag applied to any minority player cracking down on another player's "fun", despite there being plenty in the league. Ozzie Guillen publicly scolded a reliever for not throwing at someone well enough.

An 85-year old caller is now reading from a book on Billy Martin re: Hawk ... this has to be some sort of temporal disturbance ... I have no idea what he just said ... the bummer is he wasn't 83.

The Fun Police would stop all that incessant giggling and table pounding.

it's really sad. I like Jason but I'm not sure what planet he's coming from on this one.
