The guys are in the bleachers at Wrigley today (still the oddest remote idea) and Theo is on. Says the guys are way over-analyzing some of his comments to the media of late, and he's not mad at Maddon or any of the players. He takes responsibility for this season's current level of failure, but still believes they are in the hunt as the trade deadline approaches, scoffing at a question from Parkins as to whether they could be sellers at the deadline.

Doesn't sound like Theo was on board with batting Kyle lead off.

Just because they scoffed at being sellers doesn't mean they are super motivated buyers either.

Another reason I wouldn't have a manager. Just order the batters from highest OPS to lowest. Let the shortstop tell guys when to take a day off and have the pitching coach handle the pitchers. $5 million dollar a year savings and no Schwarber leading off. BOOM!

Spiegel is making a lot of Theo's comments about re-evaluating expectations of some players having bad first halves, he surmises Theo is talking about Addison Russell and Kyle Schwarber.

I want to know why Javier Baez is escaping criticism? He's been hotter his last 16 games with an AVG/OBP north of .300/.360, but on the year he barely has a .300 OBP with a sub-.500 SLG, and is well below league average overall and at his position, on top of being below average defensively.

I would think it's because expectations were higher for those two. I don't recall anyone saying that Baez was a future MVP candidate on broadcast last year like they did with Russell.

Series MVP vs whole year MVP are two very different things. Russell was consistently mentioned, way prematurely imo, as a future MVP last year on telecasts. Broadcasters, everywhere mind you, get a bit too homery and cheerleadery when it comes to these things.

You've obviously never seen the man tag.

It wasn't just their tv and radio guys saying Russel would be a future MVP, as well saying the Cubs were going to be winning multiple titles as well. Both seem far fetched now. It was also the turds on the Score anointing them.

I actually listen to quite a few Cubs games, no way I'll go down the dial to the booyas. My take - I like Coomer, but have very little use for Pat, dude is such a homer Hawk sounds fair and balanced compared to him. Joniak does a better job actually.

They're replaying the Theo interview from an hour ago? What is with this recent trend at The Score of shows replaying entire segments multiple times throughout the day?

It's like that dance scene in the beginning of Knocked Up.

Dude, I think he's doing the dice thing too much.

That's really all he's got.

The tagging is fresh in everybodies mind since it just happened last season and not in 2005.

If the trading deadline approaches and the Cubs are like 6-8 games out, they can trade Arrieta. I'm fine with them picking up pieces for next year and maybe a 5th starter type to close out this season.
