Post subject:  This show has too much Gambling Talk

Everything during transition and the first half-hour the show was discussed through the prism of gambling: The Bernstein-Parkins wager, the tournament is majestic "because of point spreads being blown up late in the game", bets made on various Tournament games, the Show Pot, etc.

This is like in the early days of Bernstein & Goff when people began checking their watch to see just how long B&G had been discussing LeBron. I get that these guys are gamblers, and talking about sports in that manner is of relative ease to them, but that is the same excuse people made for the early days of B&G, and that devolved very quickly.

I think a producer needs to step in before the outcome of last night's Cubs game is discussed not in terms of the team's performance, but the performance of the money line or 2nd-half run scoring.

I love the chemistry these guys have, and I will grant that Gambling Talk is more appealing in this town than National NBA Talk, but I don't think it's by as much as McNeil and Parkins would like it to be. And even if there are ten-fold the number of sports bettors out there in Chicagoland than there are National NBA consumers, how interesting and compelling can it be for gamblers to hear other gamblers talk about gambling?

Have the courts ruled on whether or not it's legal to talk about gambling?

It is getting to the point of annoyance. Still light years ahead of B & G

Yes, still absolutely better than B&G, that's no question. However, when EVERY-THING is discussed in terms of spread, favorite, odds, line, it gets rather annoying.

Every radio host has a crutch, with Dan and Jason it was the NBA, and with these two, it's obviously gambling. With their chemistry and approach, I have confidence they will be able to leave their respective crutches behind after not too long, with my only fear being that instead of their familiarity reducing the need to rely on the crutch of gambling, it will in fact amplify their desire to rely on same.

Gambling talk is good, it's what interests us in sporting events that don't involve local teams

If I'm making the bet, sure, but I don't think there's entanglement in the rooting interest spurred by betting on sports.

I think it’s just coincidence they started during the tourney. It should die down until Football.

As an Edgewater resident, I would like some more LUC talk. Seemed today the focus was on Syracuse/Duke and a dumbass bet with Danny B

The NBA is legal now, yet Bernstein & Goff talked about it too much. The same can and will be true of sports betting and the McNeil and Parkins Show, should PASPA be overturned.

No, I simply think Mac and Parko have discussed sports gambling a bit too much for a sports-talk program intended for mass, or even just key demo, appeal.

only like 5% of sporting events/games are worth watching/discussing. the other 95% are worth it b/c of gambling.

Each year I find myself less and less interested in things like the NFL (Bears are an exception). Sports gambling keeps it interesting for me.

Bovada at a few dollars per pop makes things interesting
