Probably wanted an addendum to their "don't get fat" arrangement, it reads "don't get fired".

What is wrong with Mac's voice and when it is supposed to get better?

How many 5 Hour Energies is Parkins taking before each show? He sounds very hyper.

I wonder if DeCastro considered that there are listeners so turned off by the station over the last few years that don't have the inclination to suffer through the dull settling in period of both new shows?

Given that it's WCUB, I'm actually fairly close to taking the station completely off my presets...in favor of WGN

I had to turn it off part way through Parkins' in-depth analysis of the current state of stand up comedy. It's silly for him to criticize Dave Chappelle for not being "evolved" when telling jokes about Trans people and saying Eddie Murphy's standup from the 80s is not funny because he made jokes about gay people when he's the same guy who refers to basketball and football as "black" sports.

He also keeps mentioning he's a straight, white, male and seems to view people as categories rather than people so I'm guessing he's a proponent of identity politics.

I hope Parkins realizes that people who think like him are to blame for the death of comedy.

Two things killing stand-up:

1) Comedy now is just making good points about why Donald Trump is bad

2) middle-class white girls who move to Brooklyn and think they can do stand-up by doing Aubrey Plaza's flat affect and mumbling about being a millennial. Every routine is like "sooooo uhhhhhh a little about me? I was kind of a troublemaker in high school, I got suspended for giving a kid a handjob in the science lab, except instead of using my hand, I used my vagina, and instead of it being a kid, it was my teacher? uhhhhhh but I'm fine now, I think. Now I watch Netlfix with my cat. Except what's with romantic comedies? like, uhhhhh, kinda rapey? I think it would be romantic if the movie was just, like, a guy texting you to hang out and then you go to brunch and uhhhhh that's the whole movie I guess?"

Parkins: comedy isn't edgy anymore and that sucks!
Parkins: I'm offended and they're not evolved! I'm a straight white male!

I know people dislike Spiegel here but I wonder if they moved S&P to afternoons if it would have cut into W&S. I feel like this won’t at all.

Eddie Murphy not being funny could be the all time worst take in WSCR history.

Yeah, you'd think Parkins who grew up in the prime of Murphy's career as the donkey in Shrek would not have such a dumb opinion.

Certainly a timely conversation given that a dude in the UK was arrested just got convicted of a hate crime for a joke involving his dog.

You have to be able to say most anything you please and, just as the generations before us, we have to be natively intelligent enough to debate those people we disagree with when given the opportunity, and ignore them we we are not given the opportunity. Suppressing speech and ideas is a bad bet all around. It suppresses new ideas and pushes bad ideas below the surface where they fester.

This is a quote from Samuel Gompers, a 19th century left-leaning labor union leader at a time when people were still being beaten over the heads for such things:

Quote:
The freedom of speech and the freedom of the press have not been granted to the people in order that they may say things which please, and which are based upon accepted thought, but the right to say the things which displease, the right to say the things which convey the new and yet unexpected thoughts, the right to say things, even though they do a wrong.

was that the hitler/nazi dog guy? speaking of the UK and comedy i remember someone got jailed for making a joke about a lorry accident in scotland or something.... it's tough sledding out there.

laurence had some comedian in studio a week or two ago and he was talking about the difference between chicago crowds and LA crowds (LA = where the money is at) -- he used an example of a gluten joke he's got that kills out here, but you go out to LA and someone in the crowd will be like "HEY MY MOTHER HAD ISSUES WITH GLUTEN" and it's generally more anal retentive / MUH FEELINGS out there....

....aka what curious hair said!
