If you make the same grammatical mistake more than three times, I believe we have an obligation to correct it. Or is it more than four times?

if you gents want to get technical, spelling is not grammar, ergo a misspelled word is not a "grammatical" mistake. It is a spelling mistake

Grammar is a set of rules/guidelines as to how language is used, not how it is spelled.

The Viet Cong are not a singular identity. It is the name of a group of people who share(d) the same or similar political beliefs and goals.

Ergo, The Viet Cong don't.

or change the sentence to a " a member of the Viet Cong doesn't".

This is an example of a "grammatical" mistake.

He used the wrong word. If someone uses "to" or "two", instead of "too", that is a grammar mistake. Sure he misspelled "than", but it was because he used the wrong word.

And hell, it was a stupid joke. I am the worst at spelling and grammar. Just giving my BD a rough ride.
